[Assk] A 2nd Listserv

Hey guys,

This thought has crossed my mind since graduating.

When the listserv was setup, there weren't any alumnist on it yet... though the intent was that it could be used to post the day to day, as well as to exchange assists on projects, organize carpools, inform people about opportunities and events you came across, keep each other updated etc.

Now the issue here is that it's all the one listserv and there is no kind of filter anyone can put onto their mailbox to sort between the day to day activity and the requests/ opportunities/ updates.

Would it be feasible to have a 2nd list which could be made by simply cloning the roaster of this list?

You remove the current members from the one clone and the previous/ unactive members from the second.
That way if a message is meant for all such as a job or residency post, it could be sent through to both list servs.
If the message is in regards to the meeting next Tuesday, it would only be sent to members current and active.

As people graduate or become inactive, their names can be moved from the one list to the other.

I'd say on average 1/5 messages sent is apt for everyone... the other 4/5 are specific to the people there.

I maintained the list for years... and it seemed that a number of people left after a few months out because it's mostly spam from that point of view.

Others which I've spoken to remained on the list but went completely inactive and have it filtered to goto their junk mail.

Though we mentioned the list as being for current and prior members... we never fully thought out the logistics of that.

So if it's even possible it'd be on whoever is running the list now to do the footwork.

Either way I figured I'd throw the idea out there to you.
