Julie Folsom - W Soccer
(fr. Wanaque, NJ/Lakeland Regional)
Julie Folsom, of the women's soccer team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Folsom scored a pair of goals in a 4-1 win over Millersville. She added another goal in KU's 3-0 win at Mansfield.

SAT 10/16 - at DeSales Invitational
Women: 2nd/27 (92 points) - The KU women placed second of 27 teams at the DeSales Inviational. Molly Lare (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) led the Golden Bears, finishing sixth on the 6K course with a time of 23:37. Chelsea Thomas (so. Sellersville/Pennridge) and Danielle Mousley (sr. Manheim Twp./Manheim Twp.) also finished in the top-20. Thomas was 15th in 24:35, 10 seconds ahead of Mousley, who placed 17th. Madonna Patterson (so. Philadlephia/William Penn) ran a 25:06 to place 21st and Amanda Grant (sr. Whitehall/Whitehall) finished 33rd in 25:36. Dickinson won the team title with 74 points.
Men: 2nd/28 (99 points) - Kutztown finished just two points behind first place Dickinson at the DeSales Invitational. The Golden Bears had 99 points, good for second place. Keith Gruchacz (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) led the KU attack with a seventh place finish in 27:03. Gerard Ganey (so. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) was the 12th runner to cover the 8K course, finishing in 27:21. Dan Wilde (so. Lemoyne/Cedar Cliff) placed 17th in 27:36. Pat Coyne (so. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) ended up in 24th place with a time of 27:52 and Joe Haughey (so. Richboro/Council Rock South) ran a 28:11 for 40th place.

THU 10/14 - KU 1, Shippensburg 0 - The Kutztown defense notched its fourth straight shutout as KU picked up a 1-0 win over Shippensburg. Mandi Turner (so. Sumneytown/Upper Perkiomen) scored on a penalty corner with 11:32 left in the first half for the only goal of the game. Trista Hershey (jr. Fredericksburg/Tulpehocken) made four saves to become the first keeper to shutout the Raiders this season. The Golden Bears managed just three shots in the contest, while allowing ten. Shippensburg also held a 19-5 advantage in penalty corners, but speedy defender Laura Kline (jr. Reading/Reading) was instrumental in breaking up the Raiders' opportunities. Strong defensive play was also turned in by Erin Livingston (sr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll), who had a defensive save, Colleen Healey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Laura Belfatti (so. Hatfield/Lalsdale Catholic). The win marked the 250th victory of KU head coach Betty Wesner's career. It was also the Golden Bears' ninth PSAC win of the season, breaking the previous school record of eight conference wins set in 1997.
SAT 10/16 - EAST STROUDSBURG 1, KU 0 (OT) - ESU scored a goal at the 71:24 mark to break a scoreless tie and hand Kutztown a 1-0 loss. The loss snapped the Golden Bears six game win streak, while the overtime goal allowed ended KU's string of shutouts at over 364 minutes. Hershey made six saves in goal for KU. The Warriors outshot the Golden Bears 7-to-3 in the game.

SUN 10/10-MON 10/11 - 6th/9, at Don Mershon Classic (at Indian Valley Country Club, Par-72, 5,800 yards) - Kutztown placed sixth at the Don Mershon Classic. Andrea Ely (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) paced KU, with a two-round score of 168 for eighth place. Angie Petak (fr. Brockway/Brockway) tied for 14th with a score of 177. Holly Shubilla (so. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) tied for 22nd with a score of 180. Tristin Suzenski (so. Pottstown/St. Pius X) finished 35th with a score of 190.
SAT 10/16-SUN10/7 - 6th/6, at PSAC Championships (Wren Dale Golf Club, Harrisburg, PA - par-72, 5,800 yds.) - The Golden Bears set single round and 36 hole records for team score at the PSAC Championships. KU finished sixth in the six team field, but the squad was the only women's team in a field otherwise made up entirely of men's teams. Ely led the Golden Bears, placing 20th with rounds of 78 and 85 for a total of 163. Amy Miller (fr. Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) finished 25th with a 81-85-166 tournament. Shubilla shot 84-89-173 to finish 31st. Suzenski and Petak rounded out the scores for KU. Suzenski shot 88-87-175 and Petak turned in rounds of 85 and 92 for a 177. KU shot a 328 for a single round record on day one, and totaled 674 for the 36 hole record.

Last Week's Action
TUE 10/12 - Millersville 4, KU 2 - The Marauders scored two goals in each half to down the Golden Bears. Millersville led 2-0 until Brian Walter (jr. Feasterville/Neshaminy) scored off a pass from Mike Schendock (sr. Swoyersville/Bishop O'Reilly) at the 39:24 mark. After the half, MU added a pair of goals to go up 4-1. Mike McCabe (fr. Shohola/Delaware Valley) scored with an assist by Marc Benson (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) in the 85th minute for the game's final score. Jason Sherman (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks East) had five saves for KU.
SAT 10/16 - Caldwell 1, KU 0 - Kutztown surrendered a goal at the 4:00 minute mark and could not capitalize on several late chances in a 1-0 loss at Caldwell. Sherman made one save in goal.

TUE 10/12 - KU 4, Millersville 1 - Julie Folsom (fr. Wanaque, NJ/Lakeland Regional) scored a pair of first-half goals and Kelly Murdock (so. West Lawn/Wilson) dished out two assists to lead Kutztown to a 4-1 win over Millersville in PSAC East action. Folsom's first goal was unassisted, while the second was helped by Murdock. Jeannine Bria (jr. Warminster/William Tennent) scored off a pass from Chrissy Jack (jr. Palermo, NJ/Ocean City) and Ashley Smith (so. Lancaster/Manheim Twp.) at the 74:30 mark to make it 3-0. The Marauders closed to within 3-1 with eight minutes to play, but KU iced the game with a goal seconds before the final whistle when Kim Kelty (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) scored off a pass from Murdock. Lesley Freer (fr. Honesdale/Honesdale) and Nicki Mitchell (fr. Nazareth/Nazareth) split time in goal for KU. Freer had one save in the first half, while Mitchell had three saves in the second.
SAT 10/16 - KU 3, Mansfield 0 - The Golden Bears broke a 0-0 halftime tie with three second half goals in a 3-0 win over Mansfield. Bria scored the game-winner at 49:11, with an assist from Smith. Folsom and Kristen Kentner (fr. Allentown/Parkland) later added scores, as well. Folsom scored her team-high seventh at 51:10 and Kentner scored her first career goal to close the scoring at 84:17. Allyson Dattola (fr. Langhorne/Neshaminy) assisted on the Kentner score. Mitchell and Freer split time in goal for KU. Mitchell played the first first 77 minutes, with Freer picking up the remainder. Mitchell made four saves, Freer had one. Kutztown outshot Mansfield 19-to-6 in the contest. The win was KU's seventh in a row and extended the team's unbeaten streak to nine games.

Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) led KU with 17 kills, 10 digs and five blocks. Dani Witherite (so. Pennsylvania Furnace/State College) had 11 kills and 24 digs. Nicole Biuso (fr. S. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) added 26 digs, while Jenn Stocker (sr. Easton/Easton) notched seven blocks.

FRI 10/15 - Lees-McRae 3, KU 1 - Kutztown fell 3-1 to the hosts at the Lees-McRae Invitational in Banner Elk, NC. Game scores were 27-30, 30-24, 30-26 and 30-21. Brandon led the Golden Bears with 16 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks. Shannon Sullivan (jr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) turned in 15 kills and 19 digs. Witherite had 11 kills and 17 digs in the match. Stocker had six kills and seven blocks. Katie Herman (so. Grove City/Grove City) handed out 47 assists and Biuso notched 25 digs.
SAT 10/16 - Mount Olive 3, KU 1 - KU dropped a four game match to Mt. Olive at the Lees-McRae Invitational. Game scores were 25-30, 30-27, 33-35, and 30-32. Brandon had 20 kills, six blocks and 18 digs to pace the Golden Bears. Herman handed out 51 assists and Biuso led Kutztown with 24 digs. Witherite notched 12 kills and added 22 digs. Stocker had 10 kills and five blocks. Krystalee George (so. Alburtis/Emmaus) pitched in with eight kills and six blocks.
