Kelley Healey - Field Hockey
(fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North)
Kelley Healey, of the field hockey team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Healey had six goals and an assist in Kutztown's 3-1 week. In a 2-1 loss to IUP, Healey assisted KU's only goal. She had a goal in the win over Slippery Rock, two goals in a win at East Stroudsburg and a hat trick in the win at Millersville.

SAT 10/22 - at East Stroudsburg Invitational - KU's women traveled to the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Saturday. Stephanie Milinichik (so. Whitehall/Whitehall) placed 16th in a time of 22:59.4. Holly Pinkerton (fr. Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) was 19th in 23:11.1. Michelle Celenza (fr. Harleysville/North Penn) was 31st in 23:55.6 and Val Toczek (jr. Whitehall/Whitehall) was 47th in 26:21.2.

MON 10/17 - INDIANA (PA) 2, KUTZTOWN 1 - KU dropped a 2-1 decision vs. IUP in a key PSAC battle. The Indians scored with 2:43 left in the first half and again in the second with 29:56 left in the game. KU attempted a comeback, when Heather Hoxter (so. Perkesburg/Octorara) put Kelley Healey's (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) pass in the back of the cage with 8:59 to play. IUP's defense was too much to overcome as the Bears had just three shots in the game.
TUE 10/18 - KUTZTOWN 4, SLIPPERY ROCK 1 - KU beat Slippery Rock, 4-1, in PSAC action. KU scored four goals in the first half to cruise to the easy victory. Lauren McCabe (sr. Shohola/Delaware Valley) opened the scoring off an assist from Laura Kline (sr. Reading/Reading) with 32:07 left in the first. The assist was Kline's school record 13th of the season. Colleen Healey (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored unassisted with 23:21 to play in the first. Younger sister Kelley Healey netted a goal off an assist from Lindsey Bozarth (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) with 13:12 to go, while Tristin Ludy (so. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) capped KU's scoring 2:23 before halftime. Trista Hershey (sr. Fredricksburg/Tulpehocken) minded a scoreless first half in goal, tallying two saves. The Rock scored its only goal with 17:06 to play in the game. The goal came against KU backup keeper Sam Flowers (so. Souderton/Souderton), who had two saves in the second half.
WED 10/19 - Kutztown 4, East Stroudsburg 0 - Kelley Healey scored a pair of goals to help KU beat East Stroudsburg, 4-0. Bozarth opened the scoring for the Golden Bears 15 minutes into the game off an assist from Colleen Healey. Kelley scored her first of two goals three minutes before half time from McCabe to give KU a 2-0 lead. Colleen scored mid way through the second half to give KU a 3-0 lead off an assist from Bozarth. Kelley then connected with Bozarth for the fourth goal in the final minute of play to give Kutztown the 4-0 win. Trista Hershey (sr. Fredricksburg/Tulpehocken) was in net for Kutztown and recorded five saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season. KU clinched a playoff berth with this win.
SAT 10/22 - Kutztown 8, Millersville 1 - KU wrapped up its regular season schedule with a win over the Millersville, 8-1. With the eight goals, Kutztown now has 71 goals on the season, breaking the school record of 67 goals scored in 1988. Kelley Healey led the Golden Bears with three goals in the game. Kelley scored the last three goals for the Golden Bears, one off of a pass by Mandi Turner (jr. Sumneytown/Upper Perkiomen), one from sister Colleen, and the other a solo shot. Kelley now leads KU with 17 goals on the season. Bozarth, Turner, Laura Belfatti (jr. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic), Hoxter and Tristin Ludy also had goals for KU. The Golden Bear defense smothered the Marauder offense, limiting it to only three shots in the game. Kutztown had 24 shots on the afternoon.

WED 10/19 - Slippery Rock 3, Kutztown 0 - The game remained scoreless until the 43rd minute when first place Slippery Rock opened the scoring. Slippery Rock added two more goals in the second half to win the game, 3-0. Ryan Kratz (so. Boyertown/Boyertown) had seven saves in net for Kutztown.
SAT 10/22 - CALDWELL 3, KUTZTOWN 2 - KU was defeated by Caldwell College, 3-2. The Golden Bears managed eight shots. Jose Castro (fr. Guayaquil, Ecuador) scored both goals for Kutztown. Castro scored KU's first goal in the 37th minute off an assist from Marc Benson (sr. Boyertown/Boyertwon). Castro scored his second goal at the 84th minute.

WED 10/19 - Kutztown 3, Philadelphia 0 - KU blanked Philadelphia, 3-0, in a non-conference game. Kelly Murdock (jr. West Lawn/Wilson) opened the scoring for KU eight minutes into the game off an assist from Jeannine Bria (sr. Warminster/William Tennent). The Golden Bears took the 1-0 lead into halftime. Cheyenne Brunner (fr. Sunbury/Shikellamy) scored KU's second goal in the 63rd minute from Erin Gallgher (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern). Kim Kelty (so. Levittown/Neshaminy) put the game out of reach in the 80th minute. Kelty's goal came from an assist by Murdock. Nicole Rodweller (jr. Easton/Easton) had two saves in net for the shut out.
SAT 10/22 - Kutztown 2, Mansfield 0 - KU shut out Mansfield, 2-0. The Golden Bears held Mansfield to six shots in the game. Bria scored KU's first goal of the game in the 21st minute. Bria's goal was assisted by Kelty. Kelty scored the team's second goal, off an assist from Gallagher, four and a half minutes later to put the game out of reach. Rodweller saved all three Mansfield shots. With the victory, Kutztown clinches the #2 seed in the PSAC East in the upcoming playoffs.

TUE 10/18 - Shippensburg 3, Kutztown 2 - Kutztown suffered a tough 3-2 loss. KU lost the first game, 30-25, before storming back to win the next two by identical 30-19 scores. Shippensburg won game four, 30-23, to force a deciding game five, which it won 15-8. Sarah Brandon (jr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) had 20 kills and four blocks. Dani Witherite (jr. PA Furnace/State College) had 17 kills, 32 digs and four blocks. Shelby Bunting (jr. Green Lane/Pennridge) had 13 kills and eight blocks, while Austin Kinney (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) had 55 assists and 17 digs. Nicole Biuso (so. S. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) added 21 digs, while Steph Biester (so. Lansdowne/Arch. Pendergast) notched 20 digs.
TUE 10/20 - KUTZTOWN 3, PHILADELPHIA 0 - Brandon broke her own single-season school record for kills, leading Kutztown to a 3-0 win over Philadelphia University. Game scores were 30-26, 30-17, 30-18. Brandon, who had 20 kills in the match, eclipsed her mark of 477 set last year, early in game one. She finished the night with 495 for the season, five short of becoming the first Golden Bear with 500 kills in a season. Witherite added 17 kills and 11 digs, while Shannon Sullivan (sr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) notched 11 kills and 15 digs. Kinney dished out 49 assists and added 18 digs for KU.
