Kelley Healey - Field Hockey

Kelley Healey, of the field hockey team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. In KU's 4-0 week, Healey had six goals and six assists. She had school record-tying four goals and two assists in an 11-0 win over Philadelphia. She added a goal and an assist in KU's 5-2 PSAC win over Mansfield.

SAT 9/10 - MAROON & GOLD INVITATIONAL
Men: 3rd/7 - Lock Haven led the way for the men with 23 points with Shippensburg second with 44. KU placed third with 76 points. Right behind KU was West Chester with 115 points. KU's top runner was Pat Bone (so. Pipersville/Central Bucks West) with a time of 27:26 in the 8k run, good for 13th place. Right behind him was Dave Tidey (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) in 14th place with a time of 27:29. Dan Wilde (jr. Lemoyne/Cedar Cliff) (27:43) was not far behind in 17th place. In 24th and 25th were Pat Coyne (jr. Philadelphia/Archbiship Ryan) and Joe Haughey (jr. Richboro/Council Rock South) with times of 28:05 and 28:06, respectively. Rounding out the top seven were Kyle Keehn (fr. Secane/Ridley) (28:11) and Pat McKeever (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) (28:15) in 27th and 28th place.
Women: 1st/9 - KU women placed first with 54 points. The Golden Bears defeated Division I Penn State in the team standings, with the Nittany Lions scoring 59 points, good for second place. Lock Haven was third with 73. Joanna Horstmann (fr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) once again led the Golden Bears finishing in fourth place with a time of 23:39 in the 6k run. Not far behind Horstmann was Julie Karaszkiewicz (fr. Boothwyn/Garnet Valley) with a time of 24:30, good for sixth place. In 10th was Stephanie Williams (so. Harrisburg/Riverside) with a time of 24:49. Desiree Bower (jr, Bethel/Tulpehocken) was 13th at 25:04. Back to back were Cheryl Dingman (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) (25:54) and Chelsea Thomas (jr. Sellersville/Pennridge) (25:57) in 21st and 22nd place. Erica Kabbeko (so. Birdsboro/Twin Valley) rounded out the top seven in 25th place with a time of 26:07.

WED 9/7 - Kutztown 5, Mansfield 2 - Lindsey Bozarth (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored two goals for the Golden Bears to help lift them past Mansfield 5-2. Bozarth scored her first goal, off a pass from Laura Kline (sr. Reading/Reading), not long after Mansfield scored the first goal of the game, to tie the game. Kelley Healey (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored, also from a pass from Kline, in the 23rd minute to put KU up by one. Mandi Turner (jr. Sumneytown/Upper Perkiomen) scored, assisted by Healey, with under a minute left in the first half to put KU up by two going into half time. Kline scored 15 minutes into the second half off a corner to add to her two assists. Mansfield scored later in the game to make it close, but Bozarth scored her second goal to seal the victory for the Golden Bears.
FRI 9/9-SAT 9/10 - JOSHUA W. WESNER MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
FRI 9/9 - Kutztown 11, Philadelphia 0 - KU dominated the Philadelphia University Rams 11-0, in the first game of the Joshua W. Wesner Memorial Tournament. The Golden Bears held the Rams to only one shot. Kelley Healey tied a school record with four goals in the game. She added two assists for 10 points in the contest, one point shy of the school's single game record. Turner was close behind, scoring three goals and assisting on one for seven points. Lyndsay Butler (fr. Clinton, NJ/Summit) scored the last two goals of the game. Lauren McCabe (sr. Shohola/Delaware Valley) and Amanda Behney (sr. Lyons/Kutztown) also scored goals. Bozarth, Kate Snyder (fr. Dalton/Lackawanna Trail) and Jennifer Belfatti (jr. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic) assisted on goals for KU.
SAT 9/10 - Kutztown 7, Catawba 1 - Kutztown was victorious in the second game of the Joshua W. Wesner Memorial Tournament, 7-1, versus the Indians of Catawba. The Golden Bears out shot the Indians, 20-8, in the contest. Leading the way for the Golden Bears were Turner and Bozarth, as they both recorded two goals and an assist. Butler contributed with two goals in the second half. Kelley Healey assisted on two goals in the game.
SAT 9/10 - Kutztown 7, C. W. Post 0 - The Golden Bears defeated the C.W. Post Pioneers, 7-0, to win the tournament. Kline, setting the school record for the most assists in one game, had four. Bozarth helped the Golden Bears' cause, scoring the last three goals in the game. Turner notched two goals while Kelley Healey had a goal and an assist.
KU had five players, Laura Kline, Kelley Healey, Colleen Healey, Mandi Turner and Amanda Behney, named to the All-Tournament team.

THU 9/8 - 2nd/5, KU FALL INVITATIONAL - The Golden Bears made a strong start to the 2005-06 season placing second out of five teams with a score of 340 in the 2005 Kutztown University Fall Invitational. Leading the way was Leigh with a score of 317. Close behind KU for third was California (PA) with 347. Holly Shubilla (jr. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) was first for KU tying for 6th place with a score of 82 on the par 74 course. Not far behind was Tristin Suzenski (jr. Pottstown/St. Pius X) in 11th place (85), Bethany Adams (fr. Allentown/Parkland) (t-12) with 86 and Angie Petak (so. Brockway/Brockway) (t-14) with 87.

Last Week's Action
WED 9/7 - Shippensburg 2, Kutztown 0 - KU lost a hard fought game to Shippensburg 2-0. Shippensburg opened the scoring at the 33 minute mark. Greg Sassaman (r-fr. Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) had three shots for Kutztown and Bill Frosoni (fr. North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) had two shots to put up a fight, but with just ten minutes left in the game, Shippensburg scored a second goal to put the game away.
SAT 9/10 - California (PA) 1, Kutztown 0 - Jason Sherman (sr. Chalfont/Central Bucks East) held California (PA) to one goal on 14 shots, but KU could not get anything past the Vulcan's goalie as KU lost to Cal 1-0. California scored the goal midway through the first half. KU was able to get off six shots. Bryce Slattery (fr. Williamsport/Williamsport) led the Golden Bears with three shots while Sassaman had two and Frosoni had one.

Last Week's Action
WED 9/7 - Kutztown 3, Shippensburg 1 - KU beat Shippensburg 3-1 for the first PSAC-East win of the season. Erin Gallagher (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) started the scoring for Kutztown 20 minutes into the game. KU took the 1-0 lead into half time. Jackie Toutkoushian (fr. Doylestown/Central Bucks East) scored her first of two goals of the second half at the 58 minute mark to give KU a 2-0 lead. A few minutes later, Shippensburg scored to cut KU's lead back to one. Toutkoushian scored her second goal three and a half minutes later, off a pass from Kim Kelty (so. Levittown/Neshaminy), to put the game away for the Golden Bears.
SAT 9/10 - New Haven 4, Kutztown 0 - Kristen Kentner (so. Allentown/Parkland) had KU off to a good start against New Haven at the New Haven Tournament, but Crystal Lindsay from New Haven was just too much for KU to handle. Kentner scored for KU 12 minutes into the game. KU enjoyed the lead for three minutes until New Haven scored three consecutive goals in the first half. KU started off the second half strong when Cheyenne Brunner (fr. Sunbury/Shikellamy) scored off an assist from Gallagher to make the score 3-2, but Lindsay came through again for New Haven and made the game out of reach, 4-2, with nine minutes left.
SUN 9/11 - Bridgeport 2 Kutztown 0 - Kutztown dropped its second game at the New Haven Classic on Sunday, losing to Bridgeport, 2-0. The Purple Knights scored both goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. Kutztown out shot Bridgeport, 13-7, but had several of its unlucky attempts hit off the crossbar. Nicole Rodweller (jr. Easton/Easton) had four saves in goal.

TUE 9/6 - Kutztown 3, Messiah 0 - KU defeated Messiah College in three games, 30-11, 30-21, and 30-25. Austin Kinney (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) led with 22 assists and nine digs. Erin Waters (so. Waymart/Western Wayne) had ten kills. Sarah Brandon (jr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) followed close behind with nine kills. Brandon and Shelby Bunting (jr. Green Lane/Pennridge) each had six blocks. Waters contributed with five blocks.
FRI 9/9-SAT 9/10 - HOLIDAY INN CONFERENCE CENTER CHALLENGE
FRI 9/9 - Kutztown 3, Fairmont State 1 - Kutztown opened the 2005 Holiday Inn Conference Center Challenge with a 3-1 win over Fairmont State Friday. KU won the first two games, 30-22 and 30-19, before the Fighting Falcons stormed back to win game three, 30-23. KU finished off the match with a 30-24 triumph in game four. Brandon had 21 kills and eight blocks to lead the charge. Dani Witherite (jr. PA Furnace/State College) added 19 kills, while Bunting chipped in with 13 kills and four blocks. Waters had six kills and five blocks. Kinney had 59 assists and 19 digs, while Nicole Biuso (so. S. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) also had 19 digs.
FRI 9/9 - New York Tech 3, Kutztown 2 - The Golden Bears' rally fell short, losing to New York Tech, 3-2, in the second match of the Holiday Inn Conference Center Challenge. The NYIT Bears won the first two games, 30-24 and 30-24. KU stormed back to win games three and four, 30-17 and 30-13. With the score tied 12-12 in game five, NYIT rattled off the final three points to clinch the match. Brandon had 22 kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Witherite had 14 kills, 15 digs and five blocks. Bunting notched 15 kills and six blocks. Kinney recorded 51 assists and 21 digs, while Biuso had 20 digs.
SAT 9/10 - Kutztown 3, Stonehill 0 - The Golden Bears started the second day of the Holiday Inn Conference Center Challenge strong, beating Stonehill in three games, 30-26, 30-13, 30-16. Kinney continued to led in assists with 42. Sullivan notched 14 digs. Bunting and Brandon led the way with 17 and 15 kills respectively.
SAT 9/10 - Kutztown 3, St. Rose 0 - KU finished the tournament beating St. Rose in three games, 30-22, 30-27, 30-26. Once again Kinney led the way with 33 assists. Brandon had 18 kills and four blocks while Bunting had nine kills and four blocks. Sullivan contributed with seven kills and 11 digs.
Austin Kinney was named to the All-Tournament team while Sarah Brandon was named MVP.
