Trista Hershey - Field Hockey
(sr. Fredricksburg/Tulpehocken)
Trista Hershey, of the field hockey team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. The goalkeeper led KU to a 3-0 week, including a pair of shutouts against Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst. She allowed just one goal and had 18 saves in 210 minutes of action in goal.

SAT 9/24 - at George Washington Inv.
M:3rd/12 - Bucknell set the pace with 31 points as the men's cross country team traveled to the George Washington Invitational. Millersville came in second with 88 points while Kutztown came in third with 125, edging out Navy by two points. Leading the way for the Golden Bears was Pat Bone (so. Pipersville/Central Bucks West), who ran a 26:30 in the 8K run, good for 13th place. David Tidey (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) was five seconds behind Bone with a 26:35, good for 18th. Dan Wilde (jr. Lemoyne/Cedar Cliff) ran a 26:56, for 26th place while Kyle Keehn (fr. Secane/Ridley) was 37th with a time of 27:19. The rest of the runners were in a close pack, finishing within four seconds and six places of each other. Joe Haughey (jr. Richboro/Council Rock South) was 49th with 27:30, Pat McKeever (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) was 51st with 27:31 and Pat Coyne (jr. Philadelphia/Archbiship Ryan) was 55th with 27:34.
W:2nd/12 - Bucknell also won the women's title with 31 points, but Kutztown kept pace coming in second with 63 points. Washington was third with 127 points. Three of KU's top finishers were in the top ten of the 6K run. Julie Karaszkiewicz (fr. Boothwyn/Garnet Valley) placed sixth with a time of 23:09. Joanna Horstmann (fr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) ran a time of 23:16 for eighth. Stephanie Williams (so. Harrisburg/Riverside) earned ninth place in 23:18. Cheryl Dingman (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) placed 18th in 24:00. Chelsea Thomas (jr. Sellersville/Pennridge), who was 30th in 24:21, Erica Kabbeko (so. Birdsboro/Twin Valley) ran a 24:39 for 33rd and Kristen Green (so. Camp Hill/Camp Hill) was 66th with a time of 25:49.

WED 9/21 - KUTZTOWN 2, EAST STROUDSBURG 1 - Kutztown held on to defeat East Stroudsburg, 2-1. Amanda Behney (sr. Lyons/Kutztown) scored the game winning goal off a penalty stroke with just over ten minutes left in the game. Kutztown had the only goal in the first half when Kelley Healey (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored off a pass from her sister, Colleen Healey (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North). KU took the 1-0 lead into halftime. ESU tied the game with 14 minutes left to play in the second half, but Behney scored her goal a few minutes later to seal the Golden Bears victory.
FRI 9/23 - Kutztown 1, Slippery Rock 0 - The Rock kept the Golden Bears scoreless until 9:22 left in the first half when Lindsey Bozarth (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored KU's only goal off a pass from Mandi Turner (jr. Sumneytown/Upper Perkiomen). Bozarth's goal stood up as Kutztown beat Slippery Rock, 1-0. Goalkeeper Trista Hershey (sr. Fredericksburg/Tulpehocken) blocked Slippery Rock's only shot. KU had 18 shots.
SAT 9/24 - Kutztown 1, Mercyhurst 0 - Kutztown won its third straight game, 1-0, against Mercyhurst College. The lone goal was scored by Turner, off an assist from Laura Kline (sr. Reading/Reading) who tied the single season record with ten assists. Hershey faced eight shots and earned her fourth shutout of the season.

MON 9/19 - 7th/8 at Gannon Invitational - Kutztown traveled to Erie, PA to compete in the Gannon Invitational at the Lake Shore Country Club. Ashland led the way with a score of 329. Allegheny came in second with 345 and California (PA) was third with 347. Gannon was fourth with 350, Findlay was fifth with 351 and Mercyhurst was sixth with 353. Kutztown cam in seventh with a score of 358. Wheeling Jesuit rounded out the scores with 394. Top golfer for KU was Angela Petak (so. Brockway/Brockway) who tied for 15th with 88. Holly Shubilla (jr. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial), Tristin Suzenski (jr. Pottstown/St. Pius X) and Bethany Adams (fr. Allentown/Parkland) each turned in 90 on the course to tie for 22nd.

TUE 9/20 - BRIDGEPORT 2, KUTZTOWN 0 - Bridgeport scored a goal in each half to defeat Kutztown, 2-0. Bridgeport scored in the 42nd minute and in the 61st minute to seal the victory. KU managed 11 shots in the game vs. Bridgeport's 15. Jason Sherman (sr. Chalfont/Central Bucks East) had four saves for KU.
SAT 9/24 - LOCK HAVEN 1, KUTZTOWN 0 - Kutztown was defeated by Lock Haven, 1-0. The lone goal in the game was scored by Lock Haven one minute before the end of the first half.

WED 9/21 - KUTZTOWN 3, MANSFIELD 0 - KU struck early and never looked back to defeat Mansfield, 3-0. Kelly Murdock (jr. West Lawn/Wilson) scored her first of two goals on the afternoon off a pass from Cheyenne Brunner (fr. Sunbury/Shikellamy) just five minutes into the game. KU kept the 1-0 lead into halftime. Murdock scored her second goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Brunner scored five minutes later, off a pass from Murdock, to seal the victory for KU. Goalkeeper Nicole Rodweller (jr. Easton/Easton) stopped both of Mansfield's shots.
SAT 9/24 - LOCK HAVEN 1, KUTZTOWN 0 - The Golden Bears lost a close one, 1-0, to Lock Haven. The lone goal was a 40 yard shot by Lock Haven which sailed over the heads of everyone into the net. Kutztown had plenty of scoring opportunities, having 11 corner kick opportunities in the game as compared to Lock Haven's one. Kutztown was narrowly out shot by the Bald Eagles, 7-5.

TUE 9/20 - KUTZTOWN 9, SHIPPENSBURG 0 - Kutztown swept all nine matches en route to the 9-0 win over Shippensburg. Kerstin Kloeffer (sr. Ludwigshafen, Germany) and Magaly Peter (fr. Mundolsheim, France) won at first doubles 8-0. Jharna Nansi (jr. Mumbai, INDIA) and Priya Pachkawde (jr. Nasik, INDIA) had a harder time with second doubles, but won 9-7. Kristen Bodalski (sr. Media/Cardinal O'Hara) and Lauren Losoncy (sr. Shillington/Govenor Mifflen) won third doubles 8-2. Kloeffer won at first singles 6-2, 6-3 while Peter won at second, 6-1, 6-1. Pachkawde pulled out the first set, 7-6, and the swept the second, 6-0, third. Nansi swept in fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, as did Losoncy at fifth. Bodlaski won the final match 6-0, 6-2.

TUE 9/20 - West Chester 3, Kutztown 1 - Kutztown dropped a 3-1 decision at West Chester. KU won the first game, 30-28, but the Rams stormed back to win the next three, 30-22, 30-28 and 30-22. Sarah Brandon (jr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) led the attack for KU with 19 kills. Dani Witherite (jr. PA Furnace/State College) had nine kills, while Shelby Bunting (jr. Green Lane/Pennridge) had eight kills. Austin Kinney (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) dished out 42 assists and Krystalee George (jr. Alburtis/Emmaus) had six blocks.
FRI 9/23 - CALIFORNIA (PA) 3, KUTZTOWN 0 - Kutztown dropped the first match in the PSAC crossover losing to California (PA) in three games, 26-30, 26-30, 21-30. Shannon Sullivan (sr. Pine Grove/Pine Grove) led the Golden Bears with six blocks. Bunting was close behind with four. Brandon added to her kills with 16 while Witherite contributed with 12. Kinney dished out 24 assists.
SAT 9/24 - SLIPPERY ROCK 3, KUTZTOWN 1 - Kutztown dropped their second match in the PSAC crossover to Slippery Rock 3-1. Game scores were 19-30, 27-30, 30-27, 28-30. Brandon and Witherite led the way with 20 and 17 kills respectively. Sullivan had 28 digs while Nicole Biuso (so. S. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and Kinney had 18 each. Kinney also had 42 assists.
SAT 9/24 - INDIANA (PA) 3, KUTZTOWN 2 - The Golden Bears were close to pulling out a win at the PSAC crossover, but Indiana (PA) was just too much in the end. Kutztown started off well winning the first game, 30-22. The games were back and forth after that. IUP won the second game, 26-30, KU won the third, 30-22, and IUP won the fourth, 21-30, to force a game five. The score was back and fourth, but IUP ended up taking it, 13-15, for the match. Kinney was impressive with 64 assists, second most in a match in schools history, and 20 digs. Biuso was close behind with 18 digs while Witherite had 16. Brandon broke her own single-match school record with 30 kills, while adding nine blocks. Erin Waters (so. Waymart/Western Wayne) had 10 blocks to lead the team.
