Athlete of the Week

Ashley Singer, women's swimming
(sr. Lititz/Warwick)

 

        Ashley Singer, of the women's swimming team, is this week's KU
Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. She set a pool record at Misericordia
while placing first in  nine events last week. Her 10:51.36 in the
1,000-yard freestyle set the pool record and the Anderson Center in KU's
109-92 win Wednesday. Her seven first-place victories Saturday helped KU
finish first at the Golden Bear Invitational.

Last Week's Action

      SAT 11/17 - NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (at Joplin, Mo.) - KU had a pair of
runners in action at the NCAA Division II Championships at Missouri Southern
State University Saturday morning. Joanna Horstmann (jr.
Downingtown/Downingtown West) placed 48th overall in 22:00 on the 6K course.
Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) finished 68th (22:23).
Horstmann was the third-highest finisher from the East region.          

 

Women's Volleyball (28-10, 8-2 PSAC East)

Last Week's Action

      THU 11/15-SAT 11/17 - NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals (at
California, Pa.)

      THU 11/15 - KU 3, Shippensburg 2 - Fifth-seeded Kutztown won a
thrilling 3-2 decision over fourth seed Shippensburg in the first round of
the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals.

Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) led KU with 20 kills and three
blocks. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle) added 18 kills and Kelsey
Nester (fr. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had 15 kills and six blocks. Katie Miller
(so. Elizabeth/Elizabeth) notched 12 kills. Nicole Biuso (sr.
Centereach/Ward Melville) and Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone)
had 21 digs apiece, while Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) and
Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) recorded 20 digs each. Kinney
dished out 65 assists and Cunliffe notched five aces. The teams traded the
first four games, with Shippensburg winnings games one and three, 30-23 and
30-25; and KU winning games two and four, 34-32 and 30-25. KU won game 5
17-15.

      FRI 11/16 - California (Pa.) 3, KU 0 - Top-seeded California (Pa.)
defeated KU 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region
at Hamer Hall. The Vulcans won with game scores of 30-22, 30-12 and 30-14.
Waters had six kills, and Nester and Cunliffe had five each. Kinney had 19
assists and 17 digs, while Biuso had 18 digs. KU's school-record season
comes to a close with a 28-10 record. Biuso finished her career as KU's
career leader in digs (2,265) and aces (160), while setting the
single-season digs mark this year (867).  Kinney finished her junior year as
KU's career assists leader (3,490).
