Athlete of the Week
Krista Tressler, women's golf
(fr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy)
Krista Tressler, of the women's golf team, is this week's KU Student
Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Tressler finished atop the leaderboard at the
Hofsrta Invitational with a two-day score of 163. Tressler had an 81 on
Friday and an 82 Saturday as she helped KU finish in first place. Her score
Friday set a school record for a par-70 course, and her 36-hole score of 163
also set a school record.

SAT 10/13 - Women 3rd/11 at Lafayette Invitational - Joanna Horstmann
(jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Stephanie Williams (sr.
Harrisburg/Riverside) led the KU women to a third-place finish at the
Lafayette Invitational Saturday. Horstmann finished the 6K race in second at
20:52 as KU scored 77 points, right behind Division I Maryland (68) and
Bucknell (75). Williams finished fourth in 21:04. Kristin Cupido (fr.
Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Reg.) finished ninth with a time of
21:34 for the Golden Bears, ranked No. 11 in the nation. Hailey Dell (jr.
Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake), Keri Brown (fr. Southampton, N.J./Seneca),
Jolene Collins (so. Annville/Palmyra) and Maureen Watson (so.
Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) rounded out the Golden Bears' top
seven women. Dell finished 30th at 22:10, while Brown took 38th with a time
of 22:25, three seconds ahead of Collins, who finished in 41st. Watson came
in 56th with at 22:54.
SAT 10/20 - Men 8th/12 at Lafayette Invitational - The KU men, who
finished eighth out of 12 teams, were led by Pat Bone (sr.
Doylestown/Central Bucks West). He finished the 8K race in 27th at 26:57.
Tom Mooney (fr. Churchville/Council Rock South) took 42nd with 27:17, while
Kevin Rodgers (fr. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) came in 51st at 27:27. Matt
Cocciardi (fr. York/York Suburban), who finished 66th in 27:44, was two
seconds ahead of John Pyne (jr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt). Ben Loht (so.
Lewistown/Indian Valley) and Pat McKeever (sr. Midland Park, N.J./Midland
Park) rounded out the top seven men for KU. Loht finished 75th at 28:06 and
McKeever was 86th with a 28:35.

Last Week's Action
TUE 10/9 - INDIANA (Pa.) 2, KU 0 - Indiana (Pa.) scored two goals in
a span of 21 seconds in the first half to defeat KU. IUP, ranked No. 1 in
Division II, broke a scoreless tie at the 25:25 mark of the first half and
scored an immediate insurance goal 21 seconds later. KU keeper Sam Flowers
(sr. Harleysville/Souderton) stopped four shots for KU.
THU 10/11 - KU 3, Millersville 2 - Alyssa Maltese (so. Hackettstown,
N.J./Hackettstown) had two goals and an assist to lead KU over Millersville
Thursday. Anne Waapu (r-fr. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) also scored and Kelley
Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had a pair of assists. With
her two points off the assists, Healey now has 127 career points, moving
into second on KU's all-time list with 127. She passed Shannon Daggett
(126, 1994-97). Waapu evened the score late in the first half. Maltese gave
the Bears a 2-1 lead early in the second half, but Millersville tied it
again at the 53:27 mark. Maltese's second goal gave KU the lead for good.
Flowers had four saves for KU.
SUN 10/13 - KU 3, EAST STROUDSBURG 2 - Waapu helped KU tie the game
twice and scored the game-winner in a come-from-behind victory over East
Stroudsburg Saturday. Waapu scored twice off of corners, blasting shots from
the top of the circle, and tallied an assist. KU trailed 1-0 at half, but
Waapu fired a shot toward the cage and Tristin Ludy (sr.
Pottstown/Pottsgrove) deflected it in to tie the game at the 43:36 mark.
East Stroudsburg retook the lead five minutes later, but Waapu tied it at 2
off a corner, taking the pass from Maltese. The same play led to the
game-winner at the 60:24 mark.

FRI 10/12 - SAT 10/13 - 1st/6 at Hofstra Invitational - Krista Tressler
(fr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy) posted an 82 in the final round of the
Hofstra Invitational to help KU finish first. Tressler, who shot an 81 in
the first round, finished atop the leaderboard. KU scored a 346-341-687 over
36 holes on the par 70, 6,206 yard Bethpage Red Golf Course. KU edged out
Hofstra and Wagner for first place in the two-day tournament. Tressler's 81
on day one was a school record, while her 36-hope score of 163 also set a
program record. Kelli Pry (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) shot 88-82-170
(tie-3rd), followed by Angela Petak (sr. Brockway/Brockway), who carded
88-88-176 (tie-8th), and Lauren Foulke (jr. Kempton/Kutztown), scored an
89-89-178 (10th). Samantha Rumbley (fr. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright)
rounded out the Golden Bears' top five with a 93-91-184 (tie-13th).

WED 10/10 - EAST STROUDSBURG 6, KU 0 - KU had opportunities but could
not prevent the shutout, falling 6-0 to East Stroudsburg Wednesday at
Keystone Field. East Stroudsburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 35
minutes. The Warriors outshot the Golden Bears 22-12. KU keeper Matthew
Fredericks (so. Montdale/Lakeland) made five saves, while teammate Ryan
Kratz (sr. Perkiomenville/Boyertown) made four.
THU 10/13 - Slippery Rock 2, KU 0 - Slippery Rock tallied two goals in
the first 30 minutes of the game and held off KU for the shutout. Slippery
Rock, which used three different keepers in the shutout, made seven saves on
Kutztown's 11 shots. Slippery Rock had 21 shots, KU's and Kratz made five
saves, while Fredericks made three.

Last Week's Action
WED 10/10 - EAST STROUDSBURG 6, KU 1 - KU allowed four goals in the
second half and fell 6-1 to East Stroudsburg Wednesday. Kim Kelty (sr.
Levittown/Neshaminy) scored the Golden Bears' only goal. Diana Hopper (so.
New York, N.Y./Ramapo) recorded the assist. East Stroudsburg scored early
and forged a 3-0 lead minutes into the second half before Kelty cut it to
3-1 at the 50:53 mark. The Warriors, however, added three straight tallies
in the final 25 minutes to make it 6-1.
SAT 10/13 - KU 3, Indiana (Pa.) 2 - Hopper scored the game-winning
goal on a penalty kick for KU Saturday, handing the Golden Bears a 3-2 win
over Indiana (Pa.). Kelly Bushe (fr. Neptune City, N.J./Neptune) and Raven
Chiara (so. Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Twp.) each scored a goal in the first
half as KU and Indiana were tied after 45 minutes of play in the
inter-divisional matchup. Hopper's game-winner came at the 56:19 mark.
Michele Kalb (so. Allentown/Parkland) recorded the assist on Bushe's goal,
and Chiara scored unassisted. Stefanie Bonsky (fr. Manahawkin, N.J./Southern
Regional) had 16 saves for KU.

TUE 10/9 - KU 3, CHEYNEY 0 - Alex Thomas (fr. Quakertown/Quakertown)
had 21 assists and six aces to lead KU to a 3-0 win over visiting Cheyney
Tuesday. Thomas added five digs, as KU won with game scores of 30-5, 30-4
and 30-3. Danielle Ozment (fr. Reading/Holy Name) led the offense with 11
kills. Catie Leahy (fr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) had five kills, five
assists and five aces. Nora Alexander (fr. Plymouth
Meeting/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had six kills and five aces.
THU 10/11 - KU 3, Holy Family 0 - KU set a program record by winning
its 20th victory in just its 24th match, defeating Holy Family University
3-0 Thursday. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) had 13 kills and
eight digs. Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) added eight kills and
two blocks. Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) had 37 assists and 11
digs. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) led the defense with
27 digs. The trio of Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown), Kelsey
Nester (fr. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) and Ozment had six kills each.
FRI 10/12-SAT 10/13 - at East Stroudsburg Friendship Tournament
FRI 10/12 - KU 3, C.W. Post 0 - KU defeated C.W. Post 3-0 in its first
match at the East Stroudsburg Friendship Tournament Friday. Confer had 11
kills and 15 digs to lead the Golden Bears. Waters, Miller and Kaitlyn
Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) added 10 kills apiece. Biuso had 28 digs,
while Kinney dished out 46 assists.
SAT 10/13 - Dowling 3, KU 0 - KU fell in three straight games to
Dowling with scores of 30-28, 30-27 and 30-23. Cunliffe posted 10 kills and
18 digs. Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 31 assists and 11
digs, while Waters recorded seven kills and four blocks. Biuso had 23 digs,
setting the school record for digs in a single season with 580 (Dani
Witherite, 532). She also set the record for aces in a career, totaling 153
thus far, passing Missy Klein (2002).
SAT 10/13 - KU 3, UMass-Lowell 1 - The University of
Massachusetts-Lowell took game two 30-27 after falling 30-25 in game one,
but KU swept the final two games, winning 30-16 and 30-22, for the win.
Waters had 13 kills and eight blocks, and Miller had a team-high 15 kills.
Confer chipped in with 11 kills and Biuso had 43 digs. Celia finished with
54 assists.
