Athlete of the Week
Austin Kinney, women's volleyball
(jr. Landisville/Hempfield)
Austin Kinney, of the women's volleyball team, is this week's KU
Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Kinney recorded 199 assists and 78
digs in four matches last week, including a 3-2 comeback win over PSAC East
foe West Chester. Kinney had 58 assists and five service aces in the win.
She set the career record in assists with 3,188 (Yvonne Shimp, 1994-97).

SAT 10/13 - Women 2nd/6 at East Stroudsburg Invitational - KU's
women's cross country team placed second at the Nevins Invitational at East
Stroudsburg University. With KU's usual front runners resting for next
week's PSAC Championships, KU's B-team led the way to the second-place
finish. KU scored 57 points, with East Stroudsburg winning with 20. Drew
(71), Baptist Bible (108), Lancaster Bible (124) and Cheyney (166) rounded
out the team standings. Kristin Green (jr. Camp Hill/Camp Hill) finished
eighth with time of 21:09 on the 5K course. Holly Pinkerton (jr. Pen
Argyl/Pen Argyl) was ninth in 21:16. Katelyn Katzgrau (sr. West Milford,
NJ/Pope John XXIII) finished 13th in 21:33, followed by Nicole Sirico (sr.
Milford/Delaware Valley) (14th, 21:34) and Becky Webb (so. Lavrys
Station/Parkland) (20th, 21:59). Michelle Celenza (so. Lansdale/North Penn)
placed 23rd with a time of 22:44.

Last Week's Action
WED 10/17 - KU 4, Mansfield 1 - Kelley Healey (jr. Toms River,
N.J./Toms River North) had a goal and two assists as KU defeated Mansfield.
KU's Carrie Healey (so. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) also had a goal
and an assist in the PSAC win. Whitney Stum (jr. Landisburg/West Perry) and
Lyndsay Butler (jr. Annandale, N.J./Summit) scored the other goals for KU.
Mansfield held KU scoreless for the first 33 minutes, but Carrie Healey made
it 1-0 at the 33:30 mark. The Golden Bears made it 4-0 quickly after
halftime, scoring three goals in a span of five minutes. KU keeper Sam
Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) made six saves in the contest. Kelley
Healey's four points in Wednesday's game pushed her season total to 48 and
her career mark to 131 points, which is second in KU history behind Lisa
Marrella who tallied 162 points between 1986-89.
SAT 10/20 - BLOOMSBURG 5, KU 2 - Five first-half goals, including
three in a span of four minutes, helped Bloomsburg defeat KU 5-2 Saturday at
University Field. KU's Anne Waapu (r-fr. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) scored
twice, both off of corners, in the PSAC game. She now has 11 goals for the
Golden Bears. But her two tallies were not enough against the PSAC's
top-scoring offense. Alyssa Maltese (so. Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown)
assisted on both of Waapu's goals. Flowers, after a tough first half,
finished strong, making a total of eight saves, and shutting out Bloomsburg
in the second half.

FRI 10/20 - SAT 10/21 - 7th/8 at PSAC Championships - KU finished
seventh at the 2007 PSAC Championships at Wren Dale Golf Club. KU was one of
three women's squads competing in the eight-team field. Kelli Pry (fr.
Coatesville/Coatesville) tied KU's school record on a par 72 course on
Sunday, shooting a 77. Her two-day total of 158 was good for a tie for 17th
place. The Golden Bears shot a 36-hole total of 663, after carding a 319 in
Sunday's second round. KU notched a score of 344 on Saturday on the par 72,
6,111-yard course. KU's score was its lowest ever at the PSAC Championships,
six strokes better than last year. KU finished ahead of West Chester's
women, who scored a 787. Krista Tressler (fr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy)
was 25th with an 85-81-166. Angie Petak (sr. Brockway/Brockway) (29th,
88-80-168) and Lauren Foulke (jr. Kempton/Kutztown) (30th, 90-81-171)
rounded out KU's top four. Samantha Rumbley (fr. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton
Wright) placed 35th with a score of 92-88-180.
Men's Soccer (1-16-1, 0-15-0 PSAC)
Last Week's Action
TUE 10/16 - Bloomsburg 3, KU 0 - Bloomsburg scored once in the first
half and twice in the second to shut out KU. Keeper Ryan Kratz (sr.
Perkiomenville/Boyertown) made three saves for the Golden Bears in the PSAC
matchup. Bloomsburg scored an unassisted tally at the 25:30 mark to make it
1-0, and added two goals in a three-minute span to give the Huskies a 3-0
lead with less than 40 minutes remaining.

Women's Soccer (9-6-3, 4-5-3 PSAC East)
Last Week's Action
TUE 10/16 - KU 2, Bloomsburg 2 (2OT) - KU couldn't find the
game-winner needed to earn a postseason berth, tying Bloomsburg double
overtime. Raven Chiara (so. Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Twp.) tied the game at 2
with 6:22 left to force overtime in the PSAC East contest. Kim Kelty (sr.
Levittown/Neshaminy) recorded her 11th assist of the season on Chiara's
goal, setting the new KU record for assists in a single season (Tanya Woods,
1992). KU opened the scoring with a goal from Kelly Bushe (fr. Neptune City,
N.J./Neptune) off a corner kick by Diana Hopper (so. New York, NY/Ramapo) in
the 7th minute. The Golden Bears had an opportunity late in the second
overtime when Julie Folsom (sr. Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland) broke free on goal
but the Bloomsburg keeper made the save to preserve the tie. Stefanie Bonsky
(fr. Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) made three saves for the Golden
Bears while playing all 110 minutes in net.
SAT 10/20 - EDINBORO 2, KU 0- KU allowed a goal in each half to fall
to Edinboro Saturday at Keystone Field. KU managed 11 shots in the
non-conference matchup and keeper Bonsky made 14 saves for the Golden Bears.
Seniors Kelty, Folsom, Kristen Kentner (sr. Allentown/Parkland) and Emily
Mahon (sr. Spring Grove/Spring Grove) were honored before their final home
game at Keystone Field.

Last Week's Action
TUE 10/16 - KU 3, West Chester 2 - Austin Kinney (jr.
Landisville/Hempfield) had 58 assists and five service aces, while Kelsey
Nester (fr. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) recorded a match-high 22 kills in a KU
comeback win Tuesday at West Chester. The Rams took a 2-0 match lead by
winning 31-29 and 30-28 in the first two games, but the Golden Bears ran off
three straight wins of 30-17, 30-28 and 15-9 to collect the PSAC East
victory. Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) was a crucial part of
the Golden Bears' comeback with four service aces and 11 digs. Nicole Biuso
(sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) led KU in digs with 24, pushing her
school-record career total to 2,002. Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne)
had a team-high eight blocks against the Rams to go with her 15 kills.
Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) and Katie Miller (so.
Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) also had double-digit kills with 12 and 11,
respectively. Kinney also had 18 digs and three blocks, and Kaitlyn Cunliffe
(fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) had 10 digs.
FRI 10/19-SAT 10/20 - at PSAC Crossover (at Clarion)
FRI 10/19 - KU 3, Lock Haven 2 - KU defeated Lock Haven in a PSAC
Crossover at Clarion University Friday night. KU came from behind after
losing game one 30-25, to win the next two 30-26 and 30-28. After the Eagles
knotted the match at two games apiece with a 30-27 score in game four, KU
cruised to the 15-8 win in the decisive game five. Lindsay Confer (fr.
Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) had 22 kills and Nester notched 13 kills to lead
the offense. Waters had eight kills and six blocks. Biuso recorded 37 digs
and Kinney had 51 assists and 34 digs.
SAT 10/20 - Clarion 3, KU 0 - KU lost 3-0 to Clarion, falling 30-24,
30-23 and 30-28. Confer had 18 kills and nine digs in the match, while Biuso
had 30 digs. Kinney recorded 43 assists and 12 digs and Nester had nine
kills and four blocks.
SAT 10/20 - Edinboro 3, KU 2 - KU fell 3-2 to Edinboro in the final
match of the PSAC Crossover. KU took the first game 30-28, before dropping
two straight games of 30-26 and 30-25. The Golden Bears forced a fifth game
with a 30-28 win in game four, but a 15-10 setback ended KU's hope for an
upset. Waters led the Golden Bears in the contest with 17 kills and three
blocks, while Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) and Miller each had
10 kills. Cunliffe also had 17 digs. Biuso had another 42 digs, while Kinney
had 47 assists and 14 digs. Kinney's numbers put her on the precipice of two
career milestones. She has 3,178 assists, six shy of the career record
(3,184 by Yvonne Shimp, 1994-97). Kinney also has 999 career digs, one shy
of becoming the fifth player in KU history to reach the 1,000-dig plateau.
