Athlete of the Week

Cory Porrino, Football
(sr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) 

                Cory Porrino, of the football team, is this week's KU
Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Porrino, a defensive back, made a day
out of keeping Shippensburg out of the end zone Saturday in the Golden
Bears' 28-16 win at University Field. Porrino stopped two Red Raider drives
with an interception and a pass breakup in the end zone. He also had eight
tackles, one for a loss, in the win.

Field Hockey (8-0, 3-0 PSAC)

Last Week's Action

                TUE 9/11 - KU 3, MILLERSVILLE 1 - Jennifer Belfatti (jr.
Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic) scored on a penalty stroke at the 16:51 mark and
Kelley Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored the game-winner
on another penalty stroke with just 7:05 left in the second half. KU put the
game out of reach with 5:12 remaining when Lyndsay Butler (jr. Annandale,
N.J./Summit) scored off an assist from Carrie Healey (so. Toms River,
NJ/Toms River North). Sam Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) had six saves
in goal for KU.

                SAT 9/15 - KU 1, Indiana (Pa.) 0 - Healey scored the game's
only goal and Flowers turned away 13 shots as KU picked up an important PSAC
road win at Indiana (Pa.). Healey scored unassisted 14:27 into the first
half on what turned out to be the only marker of the game.

            FRI 9/7 - 1st/25, at the Gettysburg Invitational - Kelli Pry
(fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) led the Golden Bears with an 82 at the
Gettysburg Invitational as KU finished first. Samantha Rumbley (fr. Bel Air,
Md./C. Milton Wright) had an 83, while Angie Petak (sr. Brockway/Brockway)
and Lauren Foulke (jr. Kempton/Kutztown) posted an 85 on the par-72 course.

Men's Soccer (1-7-0, 0-6-0 PSAC)

Last Week's Action

                WED 9/12 - West Chester 6, KU 0 - The Golden Bears held West
Chester scoreless in the first half but six goals in a span of 20 minutes
handed KU another PSAC setback.

                SAT 9/15 - SHIPPENSBURG 4, KU 3 - Greg Sassaman (jr.
Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Reg.) netted a hat trick but Shippensburg's
four unanswered goals handed KU its sixth PSAC loss of the season. Charlie
Kulp (jr. Norristown/State College) and John Ferguson (so. Chalfont/Central
Bucks West) each had assists in the loss.

 Women's Soccer (4-3-1, 1-3-1 PSAC East)

Last Week's Action

                WED 9/12 - West Chester 3, KU 2 - KU's Kristen Kentner (sr.
Allentown/Parkland) tied the game with 26 seconds remaining, but West
Chester forced a corner and scored one second left to defeat the Golden
Bears. Diana Hopper (So. New York, N.Y./Ramapo{N.J.}) tallied two assists in
the loss for KU, including a helper on the game's first tally at 16:09, when
Angela Corrado (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) scored her third goal of the season
to make it 1-0.

                SAT 9/15 - KU 4, SHIPPENSBURG 1 - Julie Folsom (sr. Wanaque,
N.J./Lakeland) scored two goals as KU knocked off No. 13 Shippensburg at
Keystone Field. Folsom, off a corner kick from Raven Chiara (so. Jamesburg,
N.J./Monroe Twp.), tied the game in the 43rd minute, and KU scored three
goals in the second half to put the Raiders away. Corrado broke the tie,
scoring an unassisted tally in the 58th minute to make it 2-1. Carolynne
Kahl (fr. Bethel/Tulpehocken) assisted Jen Pyne (fr. Wall, N.J./Wall) for an
insurance goal at the 63:42 mark, and Kim Kelty (sr. Levittown/Neshaminy)
recorded the helper on Folsom's second goal of the game with 12:27
remaining. KU keeper Stefanie Bonsky (fr. Manahawkin, N.J./Southern
Regional) made six saves in the win.

                SAT 9/15 - Slippery Rock 7, KU 2 -  Slippery Rock defeated
Kutztown 7-2 in the season opening PSAC crossover at Millersville. KU's two
team points came in singles play, with Barbara Joerns (fr. Ludwigshafen,
GERMANY) winning 6-4, 6-2 at second seed and Sabrina Arnaud (fr. Pintendre,
CANADA) winning at third singles, 6-1 and 7-6. She won the second-set
tiebreak 10-8.

  Women's Volleyball (10-2, 2-0 PSAC East)

Last Week's Action

                TUE 9/11 - KU 3, Cheyney 0 - Nora Alexander (Plymouth
Meeting/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) served up 15 aces to lead Kutztown to a 3-0 win
over Cheyney in the PSAC East opener. Game scores were 30-2, 30-6 and 30-3.
Alex Thomas (fr. Quakertown/Quakertown) added nine aces, while dishing out
13 assists. Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had six kills, while
Danielle Ozment (fr. Reading/Holy Name) notched five. Megan O'Connell (fr.
Horsham/Hatboro-Horsham) had seven digs.

                SAT 9/15 - KU 3, WEST CHESTER 2 - Jamie Celia (fr.
Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 49 assists and Erin Waters (sr.
Waymart/Western Wayne) recorded 16 kills and 12 blocks as the Kutztown
University women's volleyball team came from behind to defeat West Chester
at Keystone Arena. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) added a
team-high 23 digs in the PSAC East win. KU trailed 2-1 after losing 30-16
and 30-27 in consecutive games and faced match point in the fourth game, but
the Golden Bears rallied for the 31-29 win and took the match with a 15-10
victory in game five, handing West Chester its first loss of the season.
Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr.
Levittown/Pennsbury) each had 10 kills for KU, which won game one 30-26.
Cunliffe also had 11 digs and eight blocks. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald
Eagle) chipped in with 13 digs and Nester had nine kills.
