BLOOMSBURG, PA - Jamar Brittingham rushed for 192 yards and a touchdown to lead Bloomsburg to a 12-0 win over Kutztown University on a rain-soaked Redman Stadium field Saturday afternoon.

Kutztown put up a valiant effort vs. the nationally ranked Huskies (#10 in AFCA, #7 d2football.com, #1 in Northeast Region). The Huskies entered the game averaging over 40 points per game, but KU held BU to just two touchdowns, helped in part by the muddy field conditions.

Kutztown was led by Kyle Spotts, who was 15-of-39 for 167 yards. He also rushed for 41 yards on 10 carries. Maurice Adams gained 53 yards on 11 rushes. Larry Baumgardner had six catches for 55 yards.

Brittingham ran the ball 35 times for Bloomsburg. The Huskies attempted 52 rushes in all, throwing the ball just 11 times. QB Jack Lydic was 7-of-11 for 98 yards.

KU had a chance to take an early lead in the first quarter. KU drove 70 yards on 11 plays, including a 22 yard run by Adams to set the ball up at the Bloomsburg three yardline. Three incomplete passes led to a field goal attempt. A bobbled snap, however, led to holder Ryan Nye floating a pass into the end zone, where it was intercepted by Keith Davis.

The Huskies took advantage. Brittingham rumbled for 40 yards on the first play. Lydic completed a 23 yard pass to the KU two yardline, to set up Brittingham's two yard TD run. The PAT attempt was wide, keeping it 6-0 with 3:02 left in the first.

The defenses took over, as neither team got within the other's 25 yardline until the fourth quarter. In the Huskies' first possession of the fourth, they marched 54 yards on nine plays, keyed by a 34 yard pass from Lydic to Donny Patrick on 3rd-and-17 at the KU 40. Two plays later, Tony Ruth went in from five yards out to make it 12-0 as the PAT kick bounced off the upright with 9:20 left in them game.

Kutztown seemed points to answer. Starting at his own 23, Spotts hit James Brookes for a 31 yard pickup to midfield and then hit Larry Baumgardner for 22 yards to the Huskies 28. Another completion to Brooks set up the Bears 1st and 10 at the 15. After an incomplete pass, Spotts fumbled the snap at the 24 and dove on it. The next play, center Raymond Yannuzzi mis-snapped the ball, and had to dive on the loose ball at the 26. On 4th and 21, Spotts' high pass to Brent Howard was knocked away by Greg McGee and BU took over.

The Bears got the ball back with 1:21 left after a punt to KU's 26. Spotts scrambled three times for 32 yards, taking KU to the Bloomsburg 36 with just seconds left. Another fumble, however, was recovered by BU's Stevie Draper to end the threat and preserve BU's shutout.

The Golden Bear defense played well against the high octane Huskies. After Brittingham rushed for 142 yards by halftime, the "D" only allowed the nation's top runner to gain 50 more after the break. Michael Baldwin had 10 tackles for KU. Drew Hicks added seven tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and forced fumble. Mike Grosso had seven stops and two tackles for loss, including a sack. Nick Cresta and Matt Millard each had seven tackles.

Kutztown travels to East Stroudsburg next Saturday.
