Kutztown (1-0) 27, Clarion (0-2) 10

 

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kyle Spotts rushed for one TD and passed for another, while Maurice Adams rushed for a TD and returned a kickoff for another to lead Kutztown to a 27-10 season-opening victory over Clarion at University Field.

 

            Elfren Quiles debut for the Golden Bears with seven catches for 120 yards and a TD grab.  Adams rushed for 68 yards on 25 carries, and returned the opening kick of the second half 85 yards for a touchdown.

 

            That TD gave KU a 20-10 lead, Quiles scored the only other TD of the second half on a 21-yard pass from Spotts with 4:20 left in the third.

 

            Clarion led 3-0 in the first quarter on Kyle Snoke's 22 yard field goal.  Spotts rumbled in from 18 yards out with 14:47 left in the second quarter, but the PAT was blocked and KU led 6-3.

 

            The Golden Eagles went up 10-6 with 5:35 to play in the half on a 25 yard pass from Mark Rupert to Dane Williams.

 

            Adams put Kutztown up for good just before halftime, scoring on a two-yard run with 26 seconds left.  

 

            For Clarion, Rupert completed 11-of-38 passes for 127 yards and a TD.  Eddie Emanuel rushed for 88 yards on 16 carries.
