SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Shippensburg University used big special teams plays
to score five first-half touchdowns en route to a 42-27 win over
Kutztown Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
inter divisional play.

	The Raiders scored on six of their first seven possessions, with the
only non-scoring drive halted by halftime.  Howard Chavious returned the
opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and Pat Ferguson had two 40+
yard punt return to set up two other Shippensburg scoring drives.  
	Shippensburg led 35-7 at halftime and 42-7 midway through the third
quarter before Kutztown scored the game’s final three touchdowns.

	KU's Kyle Spotts completed 19-of-35 passes for a career-high 338 yards
and four touchdowns.  Elfren Quiles caught nine passes for 149 yards and
a TD, while Brett Harbach had seven grabs for 91 yards and two scores. 
Larry Baumgardner had 98 yards on three catches, including a 59-yard
scoring strike.

	Tony Gomez completed three passes for Shippensburg, two going for TDs.
 Ferguson scored on a 48-yard pass and Walter Crump had two grabs for 10
yards and a TD.  The Red Raider defense sacked Spotts six times.  Jaron
Nalewak had 12 tackles, including a sack.  
	Mike Grosso led KU’s defense with 10 stops and a fumble recovery.

The Golden Bears host Slippery Rock next Saturday at 6:05 PM at
University Field.
