SPOTTS, QUILES TO PLAY IN EAST COAST BOWL
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University quarterback Kyle Spotts (sr.
Tamaqua/Tamaqua) and wide receiver Elfren Quiles (sr. New Britain, Conn./New
Britain), of the football team, will participate in the 2007 East Coast Bowl
on Saturday, Nov. 24, in Petersburg, Va.
Spotts, a three-year starter, finished among KU's career leaders
in attempts (third, 921), completions (third, 475), passing yards (third,
6,065) and passing TDs (second, 51). In 2007, Spotts had one of the best
seasons ever by a Golden Bear QB. He completed 191-of-380 passes for 2,613
yards and 20 TDs. He threw 14 interceptions. Spotts' completions (fifth),
attempts (second) and passing yards (third), TDs (tie-fourth) all rank among
KU's single-season leaders. His 463 passing yards and 493 yards of total
offense against Bloomsburg set single-game school records. Spotts also
netted 180 rushing yards and six rushing TDs.
Quiles finished among KU's career leaders in receiving yards
(4th, 2,003) and touchdowns (tie-second, 20) in his two seasons at KU. In
four years, including two at Merrimack, Quiles had 4,136 receiving yards
(11th all-time in Div. II), 252 receptions (13th in Div. II) and 43 TD
catches (tie-ninth in Div. II). This season, Quiles finished second among
all Division II players in receiving yards per game (118.7). he set a KU
single-season record with 1,187 yards. He had eight TD catches among his 64
receptions.
Spotts and Quiles join former Golden Bear standout and current
assistant coach Michael Baldwin as participants in the East Coast Bowl.
The East Coast Bowl is an annual college football all-star game
that features the most elite Division I-FCS, II, III and NAIA college
football players from the Mid-Atlantic region. The game is held every year
on the Saturday following Thanksgiving at Cameron Field in Petersburg,
Virginia and is sponsored by the City of Petersburg and the National
Football Foundation.
