<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2"><b>KUTZTOWN, Pa.</b> — Through all his years of football, high school and college,
<b>Kyle Spotts (Tamaqua/Tamaqua)</b> never got a paycheck for playing quarterback — until now.</font></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">Spotts, who graduated from Kutztown University on May 10, has signed with the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">“It was very exciting,” Spotts said. “I went up there for my two-day workout and I did pretty well, and then they offered me a spot on the practice squad. The most exciting part was when I got my paycheck. That
meant I was finally a professional football player.”</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">The three-year KU starter signed a practice squad contract and is training to move into a starting role with the Dragons.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">“When I signed, they said they planned to keep me on the practice squad as the quarterback of the future,” he said.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">On the depth chart, Spotts sits behind 13-year AFL veteran and starter Aaron Garcia and two-year player Juston Wood. Garcia has thrown for more than 20,000 yards (third in AFL history) and became the first AFL
quarterback to throw 750 touchdowns.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">Currently, Spotts is learning from watching Garcia, who takes the majority of the snaps in practice. Spotts is putting in hours after practice, working out on his own and studying film. He is eligible to move
onto a gameday roster this season if anything prevents Garcia or Wood from playing in the final four games of the regular season.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">The experience as a member of the Dragons will give Spotts the chance to improve his skills at the professional level.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">"Kyle gets the opportunity to develop more as a quarterback and hopefully he can advance himself to a higher level," KU head coach Raymond Monica said.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2"></font> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2">As a senior at KU, Spotts completed 191-of-380 passes for 2,613 yards and 20 touchdowns. He graduated from KU third on the school’s all-time list with 6,065 yards and second in passing touchdowns with 51. He
also had 12 touchdowns scored on the ground — including six his senior year.</font></p>
