KU BASEBALL 4th IN LATEST DIVISION II POLL

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown University's baseball team continued its climb in the NCAA Division II national rankings, moving up to fourth in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.

            The ranking marks a one-spot improvement from fifth last week, which had been the highest-ever national ranking for head coach Chris Blum's Golden Bears.

            California State-Los Angeles (28-3-1) is ranked #1, followed by Tampa (29-6), Ouachita Baptist (34-3) and KU (21-2).  Central Missouri State (28-5) is ranked fifth.  Last week's #4 team, Georgia College and State University (30-9) dropped to #10.

            West Chester (13-6) and Slippery Rock (14-8) are tied for 30th as the only other teams from the North Atlantic Region in the rankings.

            Also this week, Kutztown remained atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association North Atlantic Regional poll.  West Chester, Slippery Rock and West Virginia State round out the top four in that poll.  KU was ranked #6 in last week's NCBWA national poll.

            The NCBWA regional poll is different from the official NCAA regional rankings, which determine participants in the NCAA Championships.  The NCAA regional rankings will begin being announced in mid-April.

            Kutztown hosts non-conference foe Adelphi on Thursday at 3:30 PM, before hosting East Stroudsburg on Friday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader at 1:00 PM.
