KU MEN'S TENNIS TEAMS READY FOR PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS 

KUTZTOWN, PA - The Kutztown University men's tennis team has qualified for
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship tournament
this Friday-Saturday at Bloomsburg University. 

            The Golden Bears are the #1 seed in the PSAC.  The top four
men's teams qualify.

            Kutztown (8-2, 4-0 PSAC) will face fourth-seeded East
Stroudsburg (6-5, 1-3 PSAC) in Friday's semifinal at 1:00 PM.  KU defeated
ESU earlier this season by a 9-0 score.  The Golden Bears are coached by
Suresh Ramamurthi, who is in his eighth season at the helm of KU's tennis
programs. 

            In the other men's semifinal, second-seeded Millersville (4-1,
3-1 PSAC) will take on third-seeded Bloomsburg (7-6, 2-2 PSAC), also at 1:00
PM. 

            Championships and consolation matches are scheduled for
Saturday, at 10:00 AM.

            The Golden Bear men's tennis team will be looking for its fourth
straight PSAC title, as well as its seventh in the last eight years.
Kutztown completed its third-straight undefeated PSAC schedule.  KU did not
lose a team point in any of this year's PSAC matches, including sweeps of
the other three conference playoff participants.  The Golden Bears were
ranked #31 in nation in the April 7 Fila Division II National Rankings, as
well as #2 in the East Region.   Millersville is ranked 10th in the region, 

            KU is led by Santiago Baquerizo (so. Guayaquil, ECUADOR), who
holds a 14-3 record as KU's #1 singles player.  Baquerizo, the #2 ranked
player in the region and #32 in the nation, teams with Lukas Labitsch (so.
Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) to form KU's top doubles team.  The pair, ranked
#1 ranked in the region and #6 in the nation, have a 13-2 record.   

            Labitsch is KU's #2 singles player.  Ranked 12th in the region,
Labitsch has an 8-4 singles record. Newcomer Gernot Gruss (fr. Rheinland
Pfalz, GERMANY) holds a 7-3 record and is KU's #3 singles player.  Lukas
Beman (sr. Woodend, AUSTRALIA) and Somdeep Appineni (Andhra Pradesh/INDIA)
are Kutztown's #4 and #5 singles players, respectively.  Beman has a 7-1
record while Appineni holds a 7-5 record.  Rubens Vianna (Belo Horizonte,
BRAZIL) rounds out the singles play at #6.  He is 9-3 this season.

            Beman and Vianna team together for KU's #2 duo in doubles.  They
hold a 4-2 record.  Appineni and Gruss form Kutztown's #3 doubles team with
a 7-0 record.
