FOUR KU TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES HAVE PROVISIONALLY QUALIFIED FOR NCAAs

KUTZTOWN, PA - Four members of the Kutztown University Track & Field team have recorded provisional qualifying performances for the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships.

            Kutztown's athletes hope to represent the Golden Bears at the championships, which will be held May 24-26 in Charlotte, NC.  

            Steve Tyson (jr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) has a NCAA provisional throw in the shot put.  At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic this past weekend, Tyson threw 52-10 3/4.  His performance is currently 16th among Division II shot putters.

            Desiree Bower (sr. Bethlel/Tulpehocken) has qualified with a time of 11:19.50 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic.  Bower's time is ranked 14th.  

            Stephanie Williams (jr. Harrisburg/Riverside) has two qualifying runs, in the 5,000m and 10,000m.  Her time of 37:22.21 in the 10,000 came at the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina in March.  In the 5,000, her time of 17:31.02 was at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic.  She ranks 11th in the 5K and 21st in the 10K.

            Renee Marchand (sr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) set a KU record in the heptathlon as she provisionally qualified for nationals with a 4,596 point performance at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic.  Her performance currently ranks 12th among Division II heptathletes.

            The Golden Bears have several opportunities remaining this season to better their performances.  Next up is the East Stroudsburg Invitational this Saturday. Final selections for NCAA representatives will be announced on May 15.
