KUTZTOWN SOFTBALL ENTERS NATIONAL RANKINGS

Golden Bears Remain #2 in Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll 

KUTZTOWN, PA - The Kutztown University softball team is ranked 17th in Division II according to the April 18th poll from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.  In addition, KU remained second in the Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings.

            KU enters the national rankings for the first time this season.  The Golden Bears, under the direction of head coach Judy Lawes, hold a 33-13 record overall and a 15-1 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.  Kutztown is currently enjoying a school-record 15-game winning streak.  

            Lock Haven (34-1) is ranked first in Division II while Bloomsburg (21-10) is 22nd to round out other PSAC teams in the poll.

            In the latest Mid-Atlantic Region poll, released Wednesday, Lock Haven is ranked #1.  Kutztown holds the #2 spot while Bloomsburg is third.  Other PSAC schools include East Stroudsburg (#4), Shippensburg (#6), Slippery Rock (#9) and Indiana (PA) (#10).  

            The Mid-Atlantic regional rankings will determine the participants in the NCAA Championship tournament.  The top eight teams from each of the eight regions qualify for the softball championship tournament, to be held May 10-12 at a site to be determined.  

            Kutztown will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Shippensburg for a doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 1:00 PM at North Campus Field.
