KU's JOE KEMMERER NAMED PSAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

 

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown University wrestler Joe Kemmerer (jr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Wrestler of the Week.

 

            Kemmerer recorded a 4-0 week as Kutztown competed at the East Coast Duals at Pitt-Johnstown on Friday and Saturday, January 19-20.  Kemmerer started the weekend with a 4-1 win over Carson-Newman's Jake Brumbelow, the #4 ranked wrestler in Division II according to the January 10 NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association individual rankings.  He ended the weekend with a 1-0 decision over West Liberty State's Matt Mossor, ranked #7.  In between he recorded a major decision and a technical fall.  Kutztown was 3-1 in the dual meets.

 

            Kemmerer, who is ranked #8 in Division II, is 19-2 on the season and has an 11-match winning streak. The only two losses the junior 133 pounder has suffered this season came against Division I opponents.  He lost in the finals at the East Stroudsburg Open, then lost in the semifinals of the Penn State Open to the Nittany Lions' Jake Strayer, who is ranked #5 in the nation among Division I wrestlers by Amateur Wrestling News.   Kemmerer came to Kutztown this season after transferring from Division I UNC-Greensboro, where he was an NCAA qualifier as a freshman in 2004-05.

            

            Kemmerer and the Golden Bears will be in action this Saturday at the 2007 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Bloomsburg.  Action gets underway at 10:00 AM.
