THREE GOLDEN BEAR BASKETBALL PLAYERS HONORED BY PSAC

 

KUTZTOWN, PA - Three members of Kutztown University's men's and women's basketball teams were honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for their efforts last week.

 

            Jess Brady (sr. Wescosville/Emmaus HS), of the women's team, was named PSAC East Co-Player of the Week.  Vivian Melvin (fr. Chichester/Chichester HS), of the women's team, and Stephen Dennis (fr. West Chester/Henderson), of the men's team, were named the PSAC East Rookies of the Week.  

 

            In a 1-1 week for Kutztown, Brady averaged 19 points and 9.5 rebounds.   Against Cheyney, she scored a career-high 26 points, including a Kutztown record 14-of-14 performance from the charity stripe, and a career-high 14 rebounds.  She scored 12 points and had five boards in the Golden Bears overtime loss to Millersville, including the last eight points in regulation and a three-pointer with 0:16 seconds left to send it to the extra period.  She shared the honor with West Chester's Katie Kline.  

            Melvin scored 11 points in Kutztown's overtime loss to Millersville, then added six points four assists and two steals in a win against Cheyney.  

            Dennis averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as Kutztown split a pair of league games.  His top effort came as the Golden Bears ended Millersville's 16-game winning streak, totaling 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in that contest.

 

            KU's women are 6-13 overall, 2-3 in the PSAC East.  The Golden Bear men are 13-6 overall, 2-3 in the PSAC East.  The teams return to action on Wednesday when they host East Stroudsburg.
