KU ANNOUNCES SENIOR ATHLETE, SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARDS 

KUTZTOWN, PA - The Kutztown University athletic department announced the recipients of its senior athletes and senior scholar athletes of the year awards at the annual all-sport banquet on May 2. 

            Ryan Loper (sr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) of the baseball team and Sarah Brandon (sr. Gibsonia/Pine-Richland) of volleyball team were named the senior athletes of the year, based on their four-year career athletic accomplishments.  Brandon and Jeff Craig (sr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban), of the baseball team, received awards as KU's top senior scholar-athletes based on a combination of their career academic and athletic accomplishments.

             Loper was the 2004 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Rookie of the Year and was named to the North Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team.  In 2005 and 2006, Loper was an All-PSAC East first team honoree.  Also in 2006, he was named the PSAC East Player of the Year.  Loper has played more games as a Golden Bear baseball player then any other with 210 played thus far.  He is second on the career list in RBI, hits, at-bats, triples and home runs.  He ranks among the leaders in doubles, runs scored and batting average.  Loper is only the second KU baseball player to achieve 200 hits and play in 200 games (Al Fitch).

            Brandon holds the single match, season and career record for kills with 1,840. She ranks third at KU in hitting percentage and blocks.  Brandon is a three-time PSAC East Player of the Year, a four-time All-PSAC East first team honoree, three-time AVCA All-Region first team, two-time Daktronics All-Region first team and Daktronics second team All-America recipient.  The psychology major has a 3.70 QPA and has been honored twice by ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District.  In 2006, Brandon was named to the PSAC Fall Top 10.

            Craig is a speech/language pathology major with a 3.64 QPA.  In 2006, he was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II second team.  Craig ranks among KU's career leader in hits, RBI total bases and batting average.  This season, he leads the team in at-bats, hits, doubles, RBI and total bases.
