KU MEN'S BASKETBALL SELECTED TO FINISH SECOND; BEN, McKEON HONORED

four starters from last season, was picked to finish second in the Eastern
Division of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

The announcement came Tuesday afternoon at the PSAC media teleconference,
where Dave Ben (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Sean McKeon (sr.
Phoenixville/Phoenixville) also were selected to the Preseason
All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East team.
Its flattering, KU coach Bernie Driscoll said in reaction to honors given
to Ben and McKeon. Its nice. The other coaches acknowledge that they are
talented athletes, but expectations dont win basketball games. It does one
of two things. You can kind of relax a little and rest on your laurels or it
gives you a little bit of a push to work hard, and the latter is how I want
them to react to this.
Ben led the Golden Bears with 18.9 points per game last season, while McKeon
led the team in rebounding with 8.6 per game. He also chipped in with 14.8
points per game. Both men were first team All-PSAC selections last season.
Stephen Dennis (so. West Chester/Henderson), last years PSAC Rookie of the
Year, and Andre Woodlin (jr. Philadelphia/Central) are the other two
returning starters for KU, which qualified for the playoffs last season with
a 17-11 overall record. The Golden Bears were 6-6 in the PSAC East, which
was second in the conference behind Millersville. Nate Edwards (so.
Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) also returns, after starting 12 games in
place of an injured Woodlin last season.
Millersville, which also returns four starters from its 2006-07 PSAC
champion squad, was picked to finish first again in the PSAC East. Cheyney,
East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg follow behind Kutztown. The only change
predicted in the standings is at the bottom with Mansfield and West Chester
swapping spots, with the Rams slated to finish seventh this season.
California (Pa.) was picked to repeat as the Western Division champion,
ahead of Edinboro, Clarion, Shippensburg, Indiana (Pa.), Lock Haven and
Slippery Rock.
KU will open the season at 7 p.m. next Tuesday against Wilmington on the
newly remodeled floor at Keystone Hall.
Its nice to finally be able to play someone else, Driscoll said. It is
nice to start out at home. The floor looks great. They did an outstanding
job on that, so were excited.
