KU's WILLIAMS, HORSTMANN TO COMPETE AT NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

JOPLIN, Mo. - Kutztown University women's cross country runners Joanna
Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Stephanie Williams (sr.
Harrisburg/Riverside {Ellwood City}) will compete at the NCAA Division II
National Championships on Saturday at Missouri Southern State University.

 

            The trip to nationals is the third for Horstmann and the fourth
for Williams.  Both runners have earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference and All-East Region honors this year.

 

            Horstmann placed 14th at the conference championship on Oct. 27,
then earned her trip to nationals with a  third-place finish at the Division
II East Regionals the following Saturday.  Her time of 21:38 at regionals
was a season-best.  Horstmann placed 46th at the 2005 NCAA Championships and
69th in 2006.

 

            Williams placed 10th at the PSAC Championships, and was the East
Region runner-up on Nov. 3 to secure a berth at the NCAAs.  Her time of
21:28 at regionals was 24 seconds off her season-best for a 6K race of
21:04, ran at Lehigh.  Williams placed 128th at nationals in 2004, 137th in
2005 and 46th last year.  

 

            The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 10:30 a.m., central
time, on Saturday.
