SEVERAL KU FALL SPORTS TEAMS RNAKED AMONG BEST IN REGION, NATION
KUTZTOWN, PA - As the fall sports season enters the home stretch, several of
Kutztown University sports teams are ranked among the region's and nation's
best.
The women's cross country team is ranked No. 11 in Division II
and No. 1 in the East Region, in the Oct. 9 poll released by the US Track &
Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Golden Bears will
compete at East Stroudsburg on Saturday before hosting the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Oct. 27.
The men's cross country team is ranked No. 7 in the East Region
by the USTFCCCA. The Golden Bears will also compete at ESU this weekend
before hosting the PSAC Championship on Oct. 27.
The field hockey team (15-2, 10-2 PSAC) is ranked No. 2 in the
South Region by the NCAA and no. 3 in Division II by the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association. Both polls were released Oct. 9. The regional
poll determines participants in the NCAA Championship tournament, with the
top three from each region qualifying for the playoffs. The Golden Bears
have already qualified for a PSAC playoff berth, and will travel to
Mansfield on Wednesday before hosting Bloomsburg in the regular-season
finale on Saturday.
The women's soccer team (9-5-2, 4-5-1 PSAC East) is ranked No. 7
in the northeast region by the NCAA and No. 8 in the region by the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America. Both polls were released Oct. 9.
The NCAA rankings determine the qualifiers for the NCAA championships, which
consists of the top six teams from each of eight regions. Kutztown has two
critical PSAC East contests remaining, at Bloomsburg on Tuesday and at
Mansfield on Oct. 7. KU trails Bloomsburg for the third and final PSAC East
playoff spot.
The women's volleyball team (22-5, 5-1 PSAC East) is ranked No.
6 in the Atlantic Region in the Oct. 10 NCAA regional poll. The NCAA
rankings determine the qualifiers for the NCAA Championships, which consists
of the top eight teams in each of the eight regions. The Golden Bears have
eight matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with Tuesday's PSAC
East match at West Chester and concluding with an Oct. 30 tilt with current
division leader Shippensburg.
