KU PREPARES FOR PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT WREN DALE GOLF CLUB
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University women's golf team, with momentum
from its first-place finish at the Hofstra Invitational, will travel to Wren
Dale Golf Club in Hummelstown, Pa., for the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference Championships this Saturday and Sunday.
KU finished second among the three women's teams at the PSAC Championships
last year behind California (Pa.) and ahead of West Chester. The Golden
Bears were seventh overall as the men and women compete in the same
tournament.
The Golden Bears are led by senior Angela Petak (sr. Brockway/Brockway) and
freshman Kelli Pry (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville). Petak has a team-best
average of 83.3, with three of her eight rounds played in the 70s. Her low
score came at the Mercyhurst Invitational where she finished seventh with a
77 in the second round of the competition - a school record for a par-72
course.
Pry averages an 84.5 with a season-low of 79 at the Gannon Invitational. Pry
finished first, posting an 82 at the Gettysburg Invitational. She also
finished third at the Hofstra Invitational with a two-day total of 170.
Krista Tressler (fr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy), who is averaging an
86.4, took first at the Hofstra Invite, setting a school record for lowest
score on a par-70 course with her 81 in the first round. She followed it up
with an 82 in the second round, helping KU to its second first-place finish
of the season.
KU has been in the top three of all five events at which it has competed.
Samantha Rumbley (fr. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) averages an 85.9 for
the Golden Bears, while teammate Lauren Foulke (jr. Kempton/Kutztown) has an
average of 86.6. Rumbley's best outing came at the Gannon Invite when she
posted back-to-back 78s to finished tied for seventh. Foulke finished 22nd
at the PSAC Championships last year with a 158 (78-80). Her 36-hole
performance set a school record for a par-72 course.
Erica Dechowitz (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Erin Arden (so. Somers,
N.Y./Somers) round out the rest of the Golden Bears who have competed this
season. Dechowitz averages 89.0 in six rounds, while Arden has an average
89.5 through two rounds of play.
The tournament tees off Saturday morning and will continue with the second
round on Sunday.
