FIVE GOLDEN BEARS, COACH RECEIVE PSAC FIELD HOCKEY HONORS

 

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Five members of the Kutztown University field hockey team
were honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and KU
coach Betty Wesner was named the PSAC Coach of the Year.

 

                Forward Kelley Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River
North), midfielder Jennifer Belfatti (jr. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic) and
goalkeeper Sam Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) were named All-PSAC
first team.  Defender Courtney Geibel (jr. Mifflintown/Juniata) and
midfielder Whitney Stum (jr. Landisburg/West Perry) were named to the second
team.

 

                Wesner, who also was named PSAC Coach of the Year in 1988
and 1997, has recorded 19 winning seasons. The 28th-year coach has led the
Golden Bears to 17 wins this season and will compete in the first round of
the NCAA playoffs at 7 p.m. Saturday against Bloomsburg.  Wesner has a
292-217-15 record in her career. 

 

                Healey, who was named to the second team as a freshman and a
sophomore, has 17 goals and 14 assists this season. She also has six
game-winning goals.  Belfatti has two goals while playing in the midfield,
including a penalty stroke. Flowers, a two-year starter in net for KU, has
16 wins this season and a 1.47 goals against average. She has recorded three
shutouts.

 

                Geibel, who was named to the second team in 2006, has been a
mainstay on the KU defense, recording five defensive saves. Stum has two
goals and an assist in the midfield.
