KU FIELD HOCKEY #1 IN SOUTH REGION

 

KUTZTOWN, PA - The Kutztown University field hockey team has received its
second #1 ranking of the week.  The Golden Bears are ranked #1 in the South
Region in the initial NCAA Division II Field Hockey Committee rankings.

 

            Kutztown was named the #1 team in Division II by the
STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll earlier this week.  Both
polls reflect records through Sept. 24.  Since then, KU has suffered its
first loss of the season, 6-1 at Bloomsburg.  The Golden Bears are now 10-1
overall, 5-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

 

            KU is #1 in the south region, followed by Indiana (PA),
Bloomsburg, Shippensburg and Bellarmine.  Stonehill earned the top spot in
the North Region, followed by Bryant, C.W. Post, UMass-Lowell and Bentley.

 

            The Division II Field Hockey Committee will select six teams,
three from each region, for the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.
The NCAA tournament begins on Nov. 3 and continues with the semifinals on
Nov. 9 and the finals Nov. 11.  Championship participants will be announced
Oct. 29.
