KU's FITZGERALD NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown University's Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, Ont./Resurrection), of the softball team, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week.

            Fitzgerald, a catcher/short stop, led Kutztown to a 6-0 week, with wins over Shippensburg, Millersville and west Chester.  The junior hit .667 (10-for-15) to go along with eight RBI's and four runs scored.  She hit safely in each contest, running her hitting streak to 12 games.  She had four multi-hit games on the week, including a 2-for-2 performance against Millersville where she drove in the only run of the game.  Earlier in the doubleheader against the Marauders, Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 with a three-run walk-off homer in the fifth inning.

            For the season, Fitzgerald is hitting .446 (54-for-121) with 13 home runs, 41 RBI and a .917 slugging percentage.  All four are tops in the PSAC.  She has 18 doubles this season, bringing her career total to 48, a KU record.

            The Golden Bears, ranked No. 10 in Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and No. 2 in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NCAA, are 36-6 overall, 13-1 in the PSAC East.  KU returns to action Wednesday at Mansfield for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
