BEN, McQUADE, TAKE HOME LEHIGH VALLEY & PSAC HONORS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University's Dave Ben (jr,Coatesville/Coatesville), of the men's basketball team, has been named Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Media Organization Peter Nevins Player of the Year for the second-straight season.  Melissa McQuade (fr. Pittsburgh/Shaler), of the women's basketball team, has been named to the LVSCBMO Team of the Year.
Also, both players have been recognized by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference for their efforts during the week of Feb. 3 to Feb. 9, with Ben being named PSAC East Co-Player of the Week and McQuade taking home PSAC East Rookie of the Week award.
Ben, who was named PSAC East Player of the Week for the first time this season, helped guide the Golden Bears to a 2-0 record this past week, as he averaged 24 points and five board per contest.
With Kutztown coming out cold in the first half against East Stroudsburg, Ben came to the rescue in the second half, scoring 24 points in the second frame, giving him a career-high 32 points on the game.Against West Chester, Ben propelled another second half comeback, as he scored 16 points, and hit the go-ahead 3 pointer with 1:05 left to seal the victory.On the week, Ben hit 18-of-34 field goals. Ben shares the PSAC East player of the week award with Millersville's Charlie Parker.
Ben is now averaging 16.5 points a game, putting him 8th in the conference.
Ben wins the LVSCBMO Player of the Year award for the second straight season.  The award is given to the top player in the Lehigh Valley area. Voting is conducted by the organization's members, including media from the Lehigh Valley, as well as coaches and sports information directors from Cedar Crest, Delaware Valley, DeSales, East Stroudsburg,  Kutztown, Moravian and Muhlenberg.
The player of the year award is named in memory of longtime East Stroudsburg sports information director Pete Nevins, who was one of the founding members of the organization and who passed away last year.
For the women, McQuade continued her stellar freshman campaign in maroon and gold as she was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this year.
On the week, McQuade turned in two double-doubles to earn her fourth rookie of the week award.Against East Stroudsburg on Feb.6, the freshman scored a career-high 20 points and ripped down 11 boards.  On Feb.9 against West Chester, the rookie followed up that performance with a 12 point, ten rebound performance.In the two games, McQuade was also 6-of-13 from the 3-point arc.
On the season, McQuade is second on the team averaging 10.0 points a game and leads the team in rebounds with an average of 8.1 a contest.
Both KU squads return to action Wednesday at Mansfield University with the women tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men to follow at 7:30 p.m.
