KU IN 10TH PLACE IN DIXON TROPHY STANDINGS AFTER FALL SEASON
KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown University is in 10th place after the fall season
in the Dixon Trophy standings and the winter and spring programs will look
to make a move toward the top five, where the Golden Bears have finished
every year since 2000.
The Dixon Trophy is awarded to the top athletic program among the
universities in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. KU has finished
in the top five in the last seven years, including a first-place finish in
2005-06 and runner-up finishes in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
KU has 51 points after the fall season, with field hockey, women's cross
country and women's volleyball accounting for 29 points.
Bloomsburg is in first place with 69 points, but leads Edinboro by just half
a point. Indiana (Pa.), which boasts two PSAC Champions so far, is in third
with 64.5 points, followed by California (Pa.) with 60 points. West Chester
(58.5), Shippensburg (57.5), Slippery Rock ((57), East Stroudsburg (55.5)
and Millersville (54) round out the top nine.
Lock Haven (49.5), Clarion (44.5), Mansfield (18.5) and Cheyney (6) follow
after KU.
The Dixon Trophy will be presented after the spring sports season. The
scores are based on the university's best 12 finishes, six men's sports and
six women's sports, during the school year. The trophy is named for F.
Eugene Dixon Jr., the former chairman of the Board of Governors of the State
of the State System of Higher Education.
