KU softball ranked No. 10 by NFCA
KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Kutztown University softball team is ranked No. 10 in Division II according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
KU (7-3, 0-0 PSAC East) moves up 11 spots since the preseason poll, when KU was ranked No. 21 prior to the beginning of the season.
KU's three losses this season have come to non-ranked opponents, but it has also knocked off a fair share of national powers. KU defeated No. 3 Georgia College & State University and No. 13 UNC-Pembroke, as well as preseason No. 3 Columbus State University so far this year.
Leading the offensive charge for the Golden Bears this season has been Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection) and Steph Denlinger (jr. Harleysville/Souderton), both of whom were All-America selections a season ago. Fitzgerald is hitting .400 with two home runs and five RBI, while Denlinger is hitting .355 with a home run and five RBI.
On the mound, Katlin Arbogast (so. Ambler/Wissahickon) has a 5-1 record with 1.44 ERA. In 34 innings, she has fanned 57 batters, and opponents are batting .181 off the sophomore hurler on the young season.
The Golden Bears will begin their annual spring break on March 7, as they travel to Florence, S.C. for the Francis Marion Patriot Invitational, then will take on Armstrong Atlantic State, before heading to the SCAD Spring Break Smash Hit Tournament in Savannah, Ga. on March 11.
