KUTZTOWN'S JAMES DART NAMED PSAC FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown University's James Dart (sr. Havertown/Haverford HS), of the men's track & field team, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, in voting by the league's head coaches.

            Dart placed seventh at the 2008 NCAA II National Championships with his mark of 54-08.75 in the shot put to earn his first All-America citation.  At the PSAC Championships, Dart placed second in the shot put behind teammate Steve Tyson with his throw of 54-0 1/2, while adding a fifth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 54-3 3/4.

            Earlier in the season at the Susquehanna Open, Dart had a school record breaking a shot put of 55-1.

            Prior to his breakthrough 2008 indoor season, Dart had placed at a PSAC Championship just once in his career, with a third-place showing in the discus at the 2005 outdoor championship meet.  Dart sat out the 2006 and 2007 seasons before returning to the squad this year.

            The outdoor track & field season will continue on Saturday at the Monmouth Invitational.
