Alison Maurer - Track and Field

Alison Maurer, of the track and field team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Maurer had a NCAA provisional and PSAC best 53-0 in the 25-lbs weight throw at the PSAC East Challenge.

SUN 2/12 - Kutztown 9, Barton 4 - Kutztown, ranked #20 in Division II by the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, opened its 2006 season on a high note, defeating Barton 9-4 in game one of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Mike McCardell (jr. West Chester/Henderson), 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, and Nate Kranz (fr. Silver Spring/Cumberland Valley) keyed a five-run first inning for the Golden Bears with a pair of two-run hits. Dan Gavlick (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) also drove in a run in the rally. Jeff Craig (jr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban), who was 1-for-3 with two runs, belted a three-run home run in the fourth. Matt Dierolf (so. Boyertown/Boyertown) capped the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh. Matt Maradeo (sr. Nesquehoning/Panther Valley) (1-0) got the win, pitching five innings while allowing two hits and two runs with four strikeouts. The senior had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings Ryan Loper (jr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs.
Barton 3, KU 1 - Barton scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth inning, while Kutztown was limited to just two hits as the Bulldogs salvaged a split in Sunday's doubleheader. Down 2-0 in the fifth, Craig was hit by a pitch with two outs and the bases loaded to drive in KU's sole run.
