Athlete of the Week

Renee Marchand - Track and Field
(jr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) 

         Renee Marchand, of the track and field team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Marchand set a school record in the pentathlon with 3,396 points at the PSAC Championships. She also placed third in the high jump (5-5) and ran the third leg of the second place 4x400 relay team, which finished in 4:00.04.

2/23-26 - at Builders Invitational (Hampton, VA)

THU 2/23 - Kutztown 10, East Stroudsburg 3 - Kutztown scored 10 runs over the seventh and eighth innings to come from behind and defeat East Stroudsburg, 10-3.  Dan Gavlick (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was 2-for-4, while Gary Stricker (sr. Croydon/Conwell Egan-Catholic) scored twice.  Matt Maradeo (sr. Nesquehoning/Panther Valley) pitched six innings, allowing six hits and three runs with eight strikeouts.  Kevin Morganti (so. Reading/Muhlenberg) was the winning pitcher, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing no runs.  Philip Rummel (so. Exeter/West-Mont Christian) went 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.

FRI 2/24 - Kutztown 13, Apprentice 1 (8 inn)  - Chad Lightcap (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and pitched a scoreless inning of relief to lead Kutztown to a 13-1 win over Apprentice.  Jeff Craig (jr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban) was 2-for-2 with two runs, Kyle Kaschak (sr. New Providence/Solanco) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and Dominic Fantanarosa (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) was 2-for-2 with two RBI.  John Shade (jr. Reading/Muhlenberg) scored two runs.  Justin Jachowicz (so. Summit Hill/Panther Valley) (1-0) was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing three hits with three strikeouts.  Steve Craig (fr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban) pitched two inning with two strikeouts and Lightcap pitched the eighth inning.  The game was shortened to eight innings due to the 10-run mercy rule in effect for the tournament. 

SAT 2/25 - Kutztown 6, Lock Haven 1 - KU won 6-1 over Lock Haven.  Ryan Loper (jr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) and Morganti combined on a three-hitter.  Loper struck out six over the first five innings and Morganti fanned two over the final four, allowing an unearned run, to pick up the save.  Nate Kranz (fr. Silver Spring/Cumberland Valley) was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Josh Fink (sr. Hatfield/North Penn) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. 

Kutztown 10, Bloomsburg 0 (7 innings) - KU scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0, seven-inning win over Bloomsburg. Loper and Bryan Riggins (so. Glenmoore/Downingtown West) drove in a pair of runs each.  Matt Dierolf (so. Boyertown/Boyertown) was 2-for-3 and Craig was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.  William Loskiewictz (sr. Philadelphia/Nuemann-Garretti) struck out seven over five innings allowing two hits.  Jachowicz and Craig pitched an inning of scoreless relief each.  The game was shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

SUN 2/26 - Kutztown 12, Bloomsburg 2 (7 innings) - The Golden Bears scored five runs in the sixth to beat Bloomsburg, 12-2, in a seven-inning contest.  Mike McCardell (jr. West Chester/Henderson) pitched six innings with six strikeouts for the win.  Lightcap went 3-for-3 and scored four runs.  The game was shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
