Rachel Weidensaul - Softball
(so. Ashland/ Cardinal Brennan) 

         Rachel Weidensaul, of the softball team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Weidensaul went 5-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 18 innings pitched.  She also had 11 strikeouts.

       TUE 3/21 - Kutztown 7, Millersville 4 (non-conference) - Mike McCardell (jr. West Chester/Henderson) was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save as Kutztown defeated Millersville, 7-4.  Garrison Raush (so. Allentown/Parkland) hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to put KU ahead, 5-4.  McCardell relieved starter Ryan Loper (jr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) in the seventh, striking out the side, for the save.  Loper went the first six innings, allowing four hits and four runs, one earned, with four strikeouts.  Jeff Craig (jr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban) was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Kutztown 1, Millersville 0 - Loper drove in the game's only run with a double in the seventh inning as KU completed the sweep at Millersville.  Craig singled the start the seventh.  After moving to second on a sacrifice, Loper belted the game-winning shot to right field.  In the bottom of the inning, McCardell pitched a 1-2-3 frame for his sixth save in KU's last seven games.  Phillip Rummel (so. Exeter/West-Mont Christian) went the first 4.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.  Derick Reis (so. Lehighton/Jim Thorpe) got the win, going 1.1 innings with two Ks and one hit.  Loper was 2-for-3.

SUN 3/26 - Kutztown 11, Wilmington 2 - Kutztown defeated Wilmington, 11-2.  Matt Maradeo (sr. Nesquehoning/Panther Valley) pitched his third win on the season, going five innings and striking out nine. Bill Loskiewictz (sr. Philadelphia/Nuemann-Garretti) pitched four innings, striking out six, for the save.  The Golden Bears scored three runs in the first and never looked back. Chad Lightcap (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Loper went 2-for-4 with a double, run and two RBI and Dan Gavlick (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.

TUE 3/21 - KU SPRING INVITATIONAL

3erd3 - Kutztown hosted its first invitational of the spring season, and placed third, shooting 357.  Mount St. Mary's placed first, 336, and Wagner finished second, 349.  Holly Shubilla (jr. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) led the pack of 25 golfers, shooting a 79.  Bethany Adams (fr. Allentown/Parkland)  and Tristin Suzenski (jr. Pottstown/St. Pius X) each shot a 91 on the day.  Lauren Foulke (fr. Kempton/Kutztown) finished the day shooting 98.

SAT 3/25-SUN 3/26 - at Northern Kentucky Invitational

14th/17 - Kutztown traveled to the Northern Kentucky Invitational.  Shubilla was KU's best golfer, 87-82-169.  Angela Petak (so. Brockway/Brockway) was 87-88-175.  Adams (86-91-177), Foulke (96-88-184) and Suzenski (94-94-188) round out the five golfers.

THU 3/23 - KUTZTOWN 9, WILMINGTON 0 (5 inn) - The Golden Bears only needed five inning to defeat Wilmington, 9-0.  Stacey Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) pitched five scoreless innings, striking out six for the win.  Dani Spalik (jr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) and Jackie Messina (so. Allentown/Parkland) each hit home runs in the win.  Kim Morrison (fr. Newmarket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs.  Kutztown scored four runs in the second inning to break the game open.  Spalik started with a home run.  Messina was knocked in on an Adriane Willmer (jr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) triple.  Morrison hit an RBI single and then scored one of her runs off a Krista Cameron (fr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) triple. 

KUTZTOWN 9, WILMINGTON 5 - Rachel Weidensaul (so. Ashland/ Cardinal Brennan) pitched four scoreless innings en route to a 9-5 Kutztown win over Wilmington.  Willmer was 3-for-4 in the game with two singles, a double and scored three runs.  Cameron was also 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Mary Costa (fr. West Chester/West Chester East) pitched the final three innings for her first collegiate save.

SAT 3/25-SUN 3/26 - at Salem {VA} Invitational

SAT 3/25 - Kutztown 2, Mercyhurst 0 - Stacey Denlinger struck out 11 en route to her fourth win on the season, 2-0, over Mercyhurst.  Kutztown scored both runs in the first inning.  Steph Denlinger (fr. Harleysville/Souderton) scored the first run on a Lindsay Bennett (so. Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) single.  Cameron scored the second run on a bases loaded walk by Spalik.  Morrison went 3-for-3 while Bennett was 1-for-2.

Kutztown 15, Salem International 1 (5 inn) - The Golden Bears scored 10 runs in the second inning as they defeated Salem International, 15-1.  Weidensaul pitched a complete game in her seventh win on the season.  Steph Denlinger hit a two-run homer in the second. Bennett and Spalik completed the 10 run inning with back-to-back home runs.  Ashley Fitzgerald (fr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) went 3-for-3 with two doubles.  Morrison was 3-for-4 with a homer.

Kutztown 17, Bluefield 7 (5 inn) - Kutztown batted around in the bottom of the fifth to score seven runs and win 17-7 over Bluefield.  Steph Denlinger hit a three run home run and Messina hit a grand slam to end the game.  Steph Denlinger was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run.  Cameron, Fitzgerald and Messina were each 3-for-4.  Weidensaul pitched her eighth win of the season, second on the day. 

SUN 3/26 - Kutztown 5, Gannon 4 (8 inn) - Kutztown scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 4-4.  KU won 5-4 in eighth inning over Gannon.  Stacey Denlinger pitched seven innings, striking out two.  Weidensaul pitched the eighth inning to pick up her ninth win on the season.  Fitzgerald hit the game winning RBI single in the eighth.  Steph Denlinger hit a homer in the win.  

Kutztown 7, Shepherd 3 - The Golden Bears scored seven runs in the first two innings to defeat Shepherd, 7-3.  Weidensaul picked up her fourth win of the weekend.  In the first inning, KU batted around, scoring four runs.  In the second, Fitzgerald hit a three-run homer. Cameron went 2-for-4 with a double.  Fitzgerald was also 2-for-4 with a home run.

THU 3/23- FRI 3/24 - LEHIGH VALLEY INVITATIONAL

The Golden Bears hosted the Lehigh Valley Invitational.  Top performers for the men included the first place 4x100 relay of Mike Turner (fr. Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), Kendel Dixon (fr. Atglen/Octorara), Steve Hixson (so. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) and Justin Gibbs (so. Pottstown/Pottstown) in time of 42.55.  The 4x400 relay team of Hixson, Billy Boorse (jr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley), Matt Carroll (sr. Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley), Tony Hegedus (jr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) finished first in 3:21.61.  The team of Ryan Jagielski (fr. Howell, NJ/Coltsneck), Dave Tidey (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), Pat McKeever (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) and John Pyne (fr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) placed fifth (3:32.61).  Hegedus finished first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.32.  Turner placed sixth (59.03). In the 110 hurdles, Gibbs came in second (15.04) and Vonkurt Redley (so. Elkins Park/Cheltenham) placed fourth (15.41).  Carroll (49.81), Hixson (50.70) and Dixon (50.95) finished 2-3-4 in the 400 meter.  In the 800, McKeever placed fifth (1:59.22).  Joe Haughey (jr. Richboro/Council Rock South) finished first in the 3000 steeplechase (9:56.4) and Nate Manbeck (so. Womelsdorf/Tulpehocken) placed fourth (10:28.9).  Steve Tyson (so. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) finished first in the shot put with a throw of 46-8.  Tyson placed third in the hammer throw (124-3).  In the discus throw, Benn Trasset (so. Mowsville/Schuylkill Valley) came in second with a throw of 135-9 ½.  Tyson placed fifth (129-8).  Turner finished second in the long jump (22-9 ½) and Josh Goad (fr. Mount Penn/Antietam) placed fourth (20-0 ½).  In the pole vault, Mike Provenzano (sr. Carlisle/Carlisle) (14-6), Brian Dodds (so. Wyomissing/Wilson) (14-6) and Steve Winters (sr. Harrisburg/Cedar Cliff) (14-6) placed 1-2-3.  Cody Hartlzer (fr. Belleville/Indian Valley) placed third in the triple jump (40-4) and fourth in the high jump (6-3).  Jordan Frank (so. Pottsville/Blue Mountain) placed sixth in the high jump (5-11).  In the javelin throw, Chris Boutsikaris (fr. Newton, NJ/Newton) placed fourth (161-5 ½) and Brian Ford (fr. Harleysville/North Penn) finished sixth (161-1).
In the women's events, Alison Maurer (sr. Lewisberry/Northern York) placed first in the discus throw (115-4) and in the hammer throw (170-4).  Michelle Hughes (so. Warminster/William Tennent) placed third in the discus (94-11) and Rebecca Griffin (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) placed fifth (76-10).  Chrissy Procopio (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) placed second in the hammer throw (158-8) and Griffin finished fourth (107-7).  Hughes finished second in the shot put (39-2) and Renee Marchand (jr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) placed third (32-7).  Laura Deller (so. York/Dallastown) (16-1 ¼) and Alex Butler (fr. Montoursville/Montoursville) (15-8) placed 1-2 in the long jump.  In the javelin throw, Allison Kipp (fr. Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) placed first (116-11).  Sandra Creason (so. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) finished fifth (98-0) and Erin Waters (so. Waymart/Western Wayne) placed sixth (93-9).  Lindsay Runkle (fr. Pottsville/Pottsville) came in first in the pole vault (10-6), Amy Schaeffer (sr. Richland/ELCO) placed second in the triple jump (33-5 ¾) and Brooke McMurray (fr. Tafton/Wallenpaupack) came in third in the high jump (4-11).  Doofan Tor-Agbidye (fr. Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed first in the 200 (26.44) and 400 (58.62).  Jewel Daye (fr. Philadelphia/Central High) finished fourth in the 200 (27.32) and Katie Quinn (fr. Glenolden/Interboro) placed sixth (27.50).  Laura Kline (sr. Reading/Reading) won the 400 hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 1:03.06).  Jessica Donovan (fr. Newtown/Pennsbury) finished fourth (1:09.43) and Talia McKinney (jr. Millersville/Penn Manor) placed fifth (1:10.38).  Marchand finished second in the 100 hurdles (16.53) and Rebecca Kerchak (fr. Sinking Spring/Wilson) placed fourth (16.66).  Cheryl Dingman (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) came in third in the 800 (2:23.29).  The 4x100 relay team of Quinn, Kline, Daye and Tor-Agbidye placed third in 49.62.  The 4x400 relay team of Donovan, Marchand, McMurray and Kline placed second in 4:06.65 and the team of Dingman, Quinn, Chelsea Thomas (jr. Sellersville/Pennridge) and McKinney finished sixth (4:21.85).
