Joe Kemmerer, Wrestling

Joe Kemmerer, of the wrestling team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Kemmerer had two technical falls at 133 lbs. in a 2-0 week for Kutztown. Against Millersville, he won 16-0. Against York, Kemmerer notched the 16-1 win in 3:37.

SAT 2/10 - Kutztown 4, Barton 2 - Dan Gavlick (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was 1-for-2 with a two-run double in KU's four-run fourth inning. Gavlick and Paul Cashin (sr. Collingdale/Monsignor Bonner) scored on an error to cap the rally. Mike McCardell (sr. West Chester/Henderson) was 2-for-4. Philip Rummel (jr. Exeter/West-Mont Christian) picked up the win, pitching four innings with three strikeouts and just four hits. Derick Reis (jr. Jim Thorpe/Jim Thorpe) pitched two innings of relief, while McCardell got the save with a scoreless seventh.
Kutztown 7, Barton 3 - Gavlick and Nate Kranz (so. Silver Spring/Cumberland Valley) belted two-run singles as KU broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh en route to the 7-3 win. Gavlick was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Chad Lightcap (so. Boyertown/Boyertown) was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Sean Bond (fr. Malvern/Great Valley) was 2-for-4 with two runs. McCardell was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Garrison Rausch (jr. Allentown/Parkland) was the winning pitcher in relief, tossing three scoreless innings. Matt Keller (sr. Fleetwood/Fleetwood) started and went three innings, allowing three runs with five strikeouts.
SUN 2/11 - Kutztown 11, Barton 7 - Lightcap led KU's offensive attack going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. His two-run homer staked KU to a 2-0 lead in the first, while his RBI single was part of a four-run rally in the third. Kranz was 2-for-3 with two runs, Gavlick drove in a pair of runs and Mike Kacelowicz (fr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) was 2-for-3 with three runs. Jason Mills (sr. Hatfield/North Penn) pitched four innings, allowing three hits and two runs, one earned. He struck out four.
Kutztown 9, Barton 3 - KU used a three-run third inning to take the lead. McCardell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Gavlick and Bryan Riggins (jr. Glenmore/Downingtown West) followed with RBI singles. Up 6-3 in the seventh, KU broke it open with a two-run triple by Kacelowicz. Matt Kulbacki (fr. Hershey/Hershey) was 2-fro-2 wtih an RBI, while Bond scored twice. Ryan Loper (sr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) was the winning pitcher, going 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out three.

SAT 2/10-SUN 2/11 - at USC-Aiken Tournament
SAT 2/10 - Augusta (GA) State 2, Kutztown 0 - KU fell behind 2-0 to Augusta State before loading the bases on consecutive singles by Dani Spalik (sr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City), Caitlin Hague (jr. Lansdale/North Penn) and Adriane Willmer (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection). The Bears, however, couldn't scratch across any runs. Kaitlin Arbogast (fr. Ambler/Wissahickon) was the losing pitcher, allowing five hits and two runs with eight strikeouts.
Columbus (GA) State 2, Kutztown 0 - KU again fell behind 2-0, while Willmer's single in the sixth inning broke up Columbus State's no-hit bid and proved to be KU's only base knock of the game. Arbogast (0-2) took the loss, despite striking out seven and allowing just two hits and two unearned runs.
Columbus (GA) State 13, Kutztown 2 (5 inn.) - Columbus State opened up the offense with 13 runs on 15 hits. KU snapped its 15-inning scoring drought to start the season with a run in the second and one in the third. Kathy Gregg (jr. Narvon/Garden Spot) was 2-for-2 with a run, while Spalik was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Lindsay Bennent (jr. Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) took the loss.
SUN 2/11- Kutztown 13, Georgia College & State University 6 - KU rapped out 13 hits en route to the seven-run victory. Up 7-5 in the seventh, KU scored six runs, including a grand-slam by Ashley Fitzgerald (so. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection), to put the game out of reach. Fitzgerald also had a double in the game. Arbogast was the winning pitcher, going all seven innings with three strikeouts.
Augusta (GA) State 4, Kutztown 3 - Augusta State defeated KU for the second time this weekend. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first, KU took the lead on a two-run double by Krista Cameron (so. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) in the bottom half of the first. The Jaguars tied it in the third then took the lead for good in the fifth. Arbogast relieved Bennett the first inning and struck out four over the next 6.1, allowing two runs in the loss.
