Athlete of the Week
Jim Dart, track and field
(sr. Havertown/Haverford)
Jim Dart, of the men's outdoor track and field team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Dart won two events at the PSAC East Challenge Saturday, placing first in the shot put (52-1) and the discus (147-1) to lead the way for the Golden Bears. His throw in the shot put was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He also placed fourth in the hammer throw (153-2).

SAT 4/5 - Mansfield 1, KU 0 - A run in the second inning was all Mansfield needed as KU was shut out in the first game of a doubleheader at Shaute Field. Philip Rummel (sr. Exeter/West-Mont Christian) started for the Golden Bears and pitched six innings, holding the Mountaineers to one run on seven hits. He struck out three. Chad Lightcap (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown) went 2-for-3, while Jared Frey (so. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) and Mike Kacelowicz (so. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) each had hits for KU.
SAT 4/5 - Mansfield 7, KU 0 - KU stranded seven baserunners as Mansfield collected its second straight shutout of the Golden Bears in the final game of a doubleheader at Shaute Field. Lightcap finished 2-for-3 for KU. Mansfield scored two early runs in the bottom of the first inning and added a combined five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-0 lead.
SUN 4/6 - KU 3, MANSFIELD 1 - Darin Gorski (so. Mount Joy/Donegal) had his perfect game spoiled in the top of the seventh, but Lightcap made sure Gorski got the win with his three-run homer at North Campus Field. With two outs and two runners on in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lightcap blasted a home run over the center field wall for the 3-0 lead. At that point, Gorski had faced the minimum on the mound, but a one-out single in the seventh broke up the perfect game. Gorski finished with five strikeouts. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk. Lightcap went 2-for-3 with a double and a homer. Corey Buletza (fr. St. Clair/Pottsville), who singled and scored on Lightcap's homer, finished 1-for-2.
SUN 4/6 - KU 5, MANSFIELD 2 - Kacelowicz scored two runs for the Golden Bears as KU completed its doubleheader sweep of Mansfield with a win at North Campus Field. Kacelowicz went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs. Lightcap and Buletza each finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Frey was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Garrison Rausch (sr. Allentown/Parkland) scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Kistle (r-fr. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny). Derick Reis (sr. Jim Thorpe/Jim Thorpe) started on the mound for the Golden Bears, pitching 5.1 innings, while striking out four. He allowed one run on three hits and one walk.

MON 3/29 - KU 15, Slippery Rock 9 - KU picked up its first win of the season at Slippery Rock University. The Golden Bears were led by Carrie Healey (so. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), who had three goals and an assist, and Janice Kinney (so. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts), who had three goals. Liz Lawrence (sr. Oreland/Springfield Twp.), Kelly Lynch (fr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.), Megan Tigue (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Jennifer Natalini (so. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) all tallied two goals for KU, while Amanda Steczak (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored a goal. Goalie Alyson Iovacchini (so. East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) made nine saves.
WED 4/2 - PHILADELPHIA 23, KU 7 - KU fell at home to Philadelphia University 23-7 at Keystone Field. Healey continued her solid play on the season, scoring three goals and assisting on a goal by Tigue in the 23rd minute. Lynch had a goal and assisted on Healey's second goal. The other tallies for the Golden Bears both came late in the second half from the sticks of Xiomara Marin (jr. West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) and Kinney.
SAT 4/5 - WILMINGTON (Del.) 17, KU 8 - KU kept the game close for the first 20 minutes, but Wilmington University (Del.) scored nine unanswered goals over the next 25 minutes to defeat the Golden Bears at Keystone Field. Lawrence and Natalini led the Golden Bears with two goals apiece. Healey had four assists. Tigue, Lynch, Danielle Shore (jr. Souderton/Souderton) and Marin also scored for the Golden Bears.

WED 4/2 - EAST STROUDSBURG 6, KU 2 - A three-run fourth and a two-run fifth propelled the Warriors to a 6-2 win over KU in the first game of a doubleheader at North Campus Field. Kim Morrison (jr. Newmarket, ONTARIO/Sir William Mulock) and Kathy Gregg (sr. Narvon/Garden Spot) scored the Golden Bears' only runs of the game. Morrison scored in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1-1. Gregg scored in the bottom of the seventh when Steph Denlinger (jr. Harleysville/Souderton) singled to right field to cut the lead to 6-2.
WED 4/2 - KU 7, EAST STROUDSBURG 1 - Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection) hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Golden Bears won to split the doubleheader with East Stroudsburg. Fitzgerald had a solo homer in the second and a three-run homer in the fifth. Krista Cameron (jr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart) made it back-to-back homers with her solo shot to right field, giving KU a 7-0 lead. Monica Glomb (fr. Mars/Mars) limited the Warriors to five hits over seven innings. Glomb struck out nine and walked two. Gregg had an RBI double and scored two runs.
SUN 4/6 - KU 5, Bloomsburg 1 - Morrison and Gregg had two hits each and Denlinger hit a three-run homer to propel KU over No. 8 Bloomsburg in the first game of their doubleheader at Jan Hutchinson Field. Gregg also hit a home run. Fitzgerald went 1-for-4 with a double. With that double, she now has 44 on her career, which ties her for the KU career doubles record. Katlin Arbogast (so. Ambler/Wissahickon) pitched all seven innings and allowed five hits, one run and struck out eight.
SAT 4/5 - SHIPPENSBURG (DH) ppd. to 4/7
SUN 4/6 - Kutztown 2, Bloomsburg 1 - Glomb tossed a complete game and struck out 10 as KU defeated Bloomsburg at Jan Hutchinson Field. Glomb allowed one run on six hits. Both Fitzgerald and Denlinger hit solo home runs. Cameron had a double, while Krista Tedjeske (fr. Summerhill/Forest Hills) had the other hit.

WED 4/2 - KU 8, EAST STROUDSBURG 1 - KU swept the doubles matches and won five out of six singles matches to beat East Stroudsburg. Lukas Labitsch (jr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA), Andrew Torrealba (so. Pembrek Pines, Fla./Chales Franasan), Arpit Sharma (so. Kolkata, INDIA), Robert Zerwick (fr. Bowers/Kutztown) and Nick Gallagher (jr. King of Prussia/Upper Merion) all won their singles matches for KU. Labitsch and Torreabla won first doubles and first and third singles. Sharma teamed with Sendhur Gautham (sr. Chennai, INDIA) to win third doubles, while Sharma also won at No. 2 singles. Zerwick and Gallagher won second doubles and fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
SAT 4/5 - KU 9, MILLERSVILLE 0 - KU shut out Millersville with Labitsch and Torrealba winning the No. 1 doubles 8-2, as well as their respective singles matches. Labitsch won at the No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, while Torreabla won at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-3. Sharma and Zerwick won 8-1 at the No. 2 doubles, while Gallagher and Gautham won 8-2 in the third doubles. All four won their respective singles matches.

WED 4/2 - KU 6, EAST STROUDSBURG 3 - KU had several multiple winners as the Golden Bears beat East Stroudsburg. Rohini Das (so. Kolkata, INDIA) and Barbara Joerns (so. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) won first doubles, while Das won first singles and Joerns won second singles. Sabrina Arnaud (so. Quebec, QUEBEC/Levy Laurzon) also won twice, at third doubles with teammate Kristen Struble (fr. East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South), and third singles.
SAT 4/5 - KU 8, MILLERSVILLE 1 - KU swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to defeat Millersville. Das and Joerns teamed up to win 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles. Tess Wright (fr. Lewisburg/Lewisburg) and Kaeley McCabe (fr. Schwenksville/Spring-Ford) won the No. 2 doubles 8-3, while Struble and Arnaud won 8-2 at the No. 3 spot. Joerns, Das, Arnaud, Struble and McCabe each won their respective singles matches.

SAT 4/5 - KU women 1st/7 at PSAC East Challenge - The KU women scored 180.5 points to win the PSAC East Challenge at West Chester. KU was first out of seven teams, edging out East Stroudsburg (179) by 1.5 points. Shippensburg was third with 156.5 points, and West Chester (91.5) and Millersville (49) rounded out the top five. Cheyney and Bloomsburg tied for sixth with 25 points. Ashley Pinter (fr. Bethlehem/Liberty) led the Golden Bears with two first-place finishes, taking the top spots in the discus (122-1) and the hammer throw (143.6). Also winning in the field were Laura Deller (sr. York/Dallastown) and Rachel Weigle (so. Red Lion/Red Lion). Deller won the long jump (17-4 1/4), while Weigle was first in the pole vault (10-2). Christina Reimer (fr. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) won the 3,000 steeplechase (12:12.30). Doofan Tor-Agbidye (jr. Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) was the first-place finisher in the 400-meter run with a time of 58:38. Keri Brown (fr. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) won the 1,500 (4:45.69). Tor-Agbidye also was a member of the second-place 400 relay and 1,600 relay teams. Teamed with Sarah Messner (fr. Maple Glen/Upper Dublin), Alex Butler (jr. Montoursville/Montoursville) and Deller, the 400 relay team finished in 51.37 second. Deller and Tor-Agbidye, teamed with Katie Colburn (fr. Hanover/South Western) and Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West), finished the 1,600 relay in 4:00.30. Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) and Lynn Lisofsky (fr. Wilkes-Barre/Coughlin) both picked up second-place finishes, with Williams finishing the 3,000 in 10:29.05 and Lisofsky running the 400 hurdles in 1:07.50. In the field, Michelle Hughes (sr. Warminster/William Tennent) finished second in the shot put (37-11 1/4) and the hammer throw (135-7). Alison Wise (so. Denver/Garden Spot) tied for second in the pole vault (9-8).
SAT 4/5 - KU men 1st/7 at PSAC East Challenge - The KU men placed first at the PSAC East Challenge in West Chester with five student-athletes winning events. KU scored 190 points, beating out second-place Shippensburg (147). East Stroudsburg was third (141.5), while West Chester (88.5) and Cheyney (84.5) rounded out the top five. Millersville was sixth (48) and Bloomsburg was seventh (25). Jim Dart (sr. Havertown/Haverford) won the shot put (52-1) and the discus (147-1) to lead the way for the Golden Bears. His throw in the shot put was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Steve Tyson (sr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) added a second-place finish in the shot put (49-3 3/4). Jason Rebuck (so. Southampton/William Tennent) was third in the discus (141-9). In the javelin, Boutsikaris placed third (191-9). Chris Boutsikaris (so. Andover, N.J./Newtown) was first in the hammer throw (171-3), ahead of third-place finisher Rebuck, who posted a 160.4. Justin Germani (fr. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) also won in the field, taking the top spot in the pole vault (15-2 3/4). On the track, Billy Boorse (sr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) finished first in the 800 (1:57.19) and Shane Harvey (fr. Potterburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) won the 400 hurdles (55.99). Vonkurt Redley (sr. Philadelphia/Cheltenham) was second in the 110 hurdles (14.78), while Justin Gibbs (sr. Pottstown/Pottstown) was third (15.01). Redley also was second in the 400 hurdles (56.46), while Isaac Schatz (fr. Elliottsburg/West Perry) took third (57.40). Patrick Bone (sr. Doylestown/Central Bucks West) was KU's top finisher in the 5,000, placing second (16:10.33). In the field, Cody Hartzler (jr. Belleville/Indian Valley) placed second in the high jump (6-9), while Devin Peterson (fr. Kutztown/Kutztown) was third in the long jump (21-3).
