Athlete of the Week

Ashley Singer, women's swimming
(sr. Lititz/Warwick)

        Ashley Singer, of the women's swimming team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the week. Singer won the 500-yard freestyle title at the PSAC Championships while setting a school record in the 100 freestyle by leading off the 400 free relay with a time of 52.70. She also placed third in the 200 free (1:54.85) and sixth in the open 100 free (52.88).

      2/21-2/24 at the Builder Invitational in Newport News, Va.
      THU 2/21 - KU 10, Lock Haven 2 - Lock Haven scored the first two runs in the top of the second, but KU scored the next 10 runs to pick up their first win at the 2008 Builder Invitational at War Memorial Field in Hampton, Va. KU held Lock Haven to just three hits in the non-conference win. The Golden Bears managed 10 runs on six hits - the biggest one coming from Matt Kulbacki (so. Hershey/Hershey). Leading 3-2, Kulbacki blew the game open with his grand slam in the sixth inning, giving the Golden Bears a 7-2 lead. Mike Kacelowicz (so. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) also had a good day at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored. The Golden Bears' first win of the season was accredited to starting pitcher Philip Rummel (sr. Exeter/West-Mont Christian), who allowed two runs on three hits in six innings of work. Rummel struck out seven batters, while walking four.
      SAT 2/23 - Apprentice 11, KU 10 - KU fell behind early, tied it late, but fell in the end to the host Apprentice School. KU was led at the plate by Chad Lightcap (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown), who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run. Jeff Kistle (r-fr. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny) scored three runs.
      SUN 2/24 - KU 10, East Stroudsburg 1 - Darin Gorski (fr. Mount Joy/Donegal) led KU over PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg in a non-conference matchup at the 2008 Builder Invitational. Gorski allowed one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts in five innings pitched for the win. Trent Mertz (fr. Kutztown/Kutztown) went two scoreless innings, and Ryan Cassidy (so. Langhorne/Archbishop Wood) and Jason Herr (fr. Harrisburg/C.D. East) each tossed a hitless frame. Herr fanned two. Kacelowicz was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Lightcap was 4-for-5 with a run, while Kulbacki was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
      SUN 2/24 - KU 12, Bloomsburg 5 - KU closed out the 2008 Builder Invitational with a win over Bloomsburg in a non-conference meeting between the two PSAC East teams. Steve Craig (jr. Wilkes-Barre/Bishop Hoban) hurled six innings, scattering four hits and allowed only three earned runs to pick up his first victory of the season. Garrison Rausch (sr. Allentown/Parkland) finished things off for KU, striking out three Huskies over the final three innings to record the save. KU enjoyed an offensive explosion, as it scored 11 runs in the first three innings. Bryan Riggins (sr. Glenmore/Downingtown West) and Brett Wigder (fr. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) had two hits a piece, while seven of KU's nine starters recorded at least one hit.
