Athlete of the Week 

Billy Stenack - Wrestling
(fr. Northampton/Northampton) 

         Billy Stenack, of the wrestling team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week.  Stenack helped lead the Golden Bears to the team title at the annual Kutztown Invitational on Wednesday.  Of KU's five individual champions, Stenack had the longest road to the title, winning four matches in the 133 pound bracket.  Stenack recorded a major decision and two decisions in the preliminaries, before notching a 13-6 win over Jerry Davis of Delaware State in the finals.

       TUE 11/23 - KU 80, Wilmington (DE) 71 - Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington, DE/Howard) went over the 1,000 career point plateau as Kutztown defeated non-conference foe Wilmington College, 80-71.  Salaam finished the game with 16 points on 5-of-7 field goals and 6-of-10 free throws.  He reached the milestone on his first point of the game, a free throw with 17:20 left in the first half.  Salaam is the 16th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.  In the game, he moved into 14th place on the career-scoring list, finishing with 1,015 points.  Bobby Eberhart (sr. Lancaster/McCaskey) scored 19 points to lead the Golden Bears.  Ty Brickus (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Ben Arnold (jr. Philadelphia/Christian Academy) scored 11 points each.  Kutztown never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 15 in the first half.  The Wildcats climbed to within six points, 63-57 with 7:58 to play in the game, but a three pointer by Frank Moultrie (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) and back-to-back jumpers by Salaam and Brickus swung the momentum, and WC came no closer the rest of the way.

TUE 11/23 - KU 79, FELICIAN 65 - Mercedes Van Wagner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) had game-highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Golden Bears over Felician, 79-65, at Keystone Arena.  Van Wagner scored her 22 points on a 9-of-12 performance from the floor.  Megan Bainbridge (so. Minersville/Nativity BVM) was 4-of-4 from three-point range and 6-of-10 overall for 19 points - 18 of which she scored in the second half.   Bainbridge's perfect game from beyond the arc tied KU's single-game three-point accuracy record of 4-for-4.  Jackie Daley (so. Havertown/Haverford) scored 13 points and hauled in 10 boards.  Rachel Weidensaul (fr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) also grabbed 10 rebounds and led KU with nine assists and three steals.  Kutztown turned in a hot-shooting performance, connecting on 50 percent of its shots in the game.  The Golden Bears hit 5-of-9 three pointers.  KU held Felician to just 30 percent from the floor, including 22 percent in the first half.  The Golden Eagles also hit just 4-of-21 threes and were just 13-of-24 from the foul line.  The Golden Bears out-rebounded Felician 50-to-41.  Van Wagner led Kutztown in the early going, scoring 10 of the team's first 16 points before being forced to the bench with two fouls.  The Golden Bears led 18-13 in the first half, when a 10-2 run built KU's largest lead of the half, 28-15 at the 6:19 mark.  Felician chipped away at the lead and trailed by just six at halftime, 34-28.  Bainbridge hit all four of her threes and went 6-of-7 from the floor for 18 second-half points as KU put the game away.  Her third trey of the game gave KU its biggest lead, 55-40 with 12:19 to play.  The Golden Eagles then started a 15-5 run that closed the gap to 60-55 at the 6:52 mark.  Felician could get no closer as the Golden Bears quickly built the lead back to double digits.

WED 11/24 - KU INVITATIONAL (1st/9) - The Golden Bears defended their home mats with a win in the nine-team KU Invitational.  Kutztown won with a team score of 106, defeating second place Stevens Tech by 34.  All 15 wrestlers entered by KU were placewinners.  In all, nine Golden Bears took part in championship matches.  At 125, Brandon Clemmer (fr. Upper Perkiomen/Upper Perkiomen) won the championship bout with a pin in 1:30.  Billy Stenack (fr. Northampton/Northampton) at 133, Ryan Wasser (jr. Northampton/Northampton) at 174, Bret Wade (jr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) at 184 and Steve Busch (fr. Exeter/Exeter) at 197 also won their weight classes.  Taking second place finishes were Dominic Sabia (jr. Conshohocken/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) at 149, Kevin Kalbach (so. Downingtown/Downingtown) at 165, Dan Brice (fr. Mansfield, NJ/Warren Hills) at 197 and Andy Freas (so. Wescosville/Emmaus) at 285.  Patrick Detweiler (fr. Ephrata/Ephrata) finished third at 165.  Three KU wrestlers finished fourth at their weight.  Vinny Rufo (sr. Wind Gap/Pen Argyl), Nick Nauroth (so. Quakertown/Quakertown Community) and Jon Shaffer (jr. Conshohocken/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) placed fourth at 133, 141 and 157, respectively.  Nauroth notched KU's fastest fall of the season in the tournament, winning his quarterfinal bout in 0:30.  At 157, Brett Wandler (fr. Northampton/Northampton) finished fifth, as did Roy Gecelosky (so. Annville/Palmyra) at 174.
