Athlete of the Week

Ryan Wasser - Wrestling
(sr. Northampton/Northampton) 

         Ryan Wasser, of the wrestling team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Wasser was Kutztown's top wrestler at the Penn State Open this weekend, finishing in fourth place at 174 in the Division I dominated event.

Last Week's Action

       MON 11/28 - Shepherd 87, Kutztown 82 - Dorian Sims (jr. Reading/Central Catholic) and Bruce Hall (sr. Cheltenham/Cheltenham) scored 24 points apiece, but it wasn't enough as Kutztown fell to Shepherd College, 87-82. Sims hit 7-of-14 field goals and all six free throws.  He added six rebounds.  Hall was 9-of-21 from the floor.  David Ben (r-fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 16 points and had five rebounds, while Frank Moultrie (sr. Southampton/William Tennent) had 12 points.

WED 11/30 - KUTZTOWN 97, PENN STATE-BERKS 72 - Ben scored 25 points and Hall scored 21 to lead Kutztown to a 97-72 win over Penn State-Berks. Hall was 7-of-14 from the field and added 12 rebounds.  Ben hit five three pointers and hauled in nine boards for KU.  Sims scored 14 points and tallied eight assists, while Ben Arnold (sr. Philadelphia/Christian Academy) chipped in 11 points and seven boards. 

SAT 12/3 - California (PA) 101, Kutztown 79 - Six players scored in double figures as the hot-shooting California (PA) Vulcans defeated Kutztown, 101-79. Moultrie scored 19 points to lead Kutztown, hitting four three pointers.  Hall had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Arnold had 10 points and nine boards. Andre Coles (sr. Philadelphia/Abraham Lincoln) chipped in 11 points off the bench. 

SUN 12/4 - at Shippensburg 77, Kutztown 61 - Shippensburg defeated Kutztown 77-61. Moultrie led KU with 14 points, while Hall was the only other player who scored in double figures, with 11. Sims and Coles added six rebounds each while Hall added five.

Last Week's Action

WED 11/30 - Kutztown 84, Penn State-Berks 40 - Kutztown more than doubled Penn State-Berks, 84-40. Jess Brady (jr. Emmaus/Emmaus) led Kutztown in scoring with 12 and grabbing rebounds with 10. Lara Dellegrotti (fr. Berwick/Berwick) notched 10 points. Megan Bainbridge (jr. Minersville/Nativity BVM) scored nine points and dished out five assists. Trish Dudeck (sr. Shamokin/Shamokin) ended with nine points. 

SAT 12/3 - California (PA) 76, Kutztown 49 - California University of Pennsylvania jumped out to an early lead and never let Kutztown back into the game to win 76-49. Monique Boykins (sr. Yeadon/Penn Wood) was the only Golden Bear to score in double figures, with 12 points.  Rachel Weidensaul (so. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) had seven points and a team-high five rebounds.  For the first time this season, KU was out-rebounded, 45-33. 

SUN 12/4 - Kutztown 74, Shippensburg 68 - Five players scored in double figures to lead Kutztown to a 74-68 win at Shippensburg. Bainbridge and Brady scored 14 points apiece.  Bainbridge added nine assists, while Brady grabbed 10 rebounds.  Dellegrotti scored 13 points, while Weidensaul chipped in 12 and Dudeck added 11. Kutztown connected on 57.6% of its shots in the second half (19-33), while holding the Lady Raiders to just 32.5% (13-40).

Last Week's Action

FRI 12/2 - 2nd/4 - at Indiana (PA) Inviational - Indiana (PA) dominated the invitational, winning all but two events. However, those two events were won by Kutztown. Rich Reshetar (jr. Pipersville/Central Bucks East) won the 50 free in 22.51 and Greg Fournier (so. Warrington/Central Bucks East) won the 1650 free in 17:11.0. Indiana (PA) came in first with 1,226 points. KU was second with 925, Edinboro was third with 710 and Slippery Rock was fourth with 434.

Last Week's Action

FRI 12/2 - 2nd/7 - at Indiana (PA) Invitational - Kutztown came in second with 758 points. Indiana (PA) won with 940 points. Edinboro was third with 648 points while Lock Haven was fourth with 515. East Stroudsburg was fifth at 482, Slippery Rock was sixth with 434 and Mansfield was seventh with 231. KU had four event winners. Ashley Singer (so. Lititz/Warwick) won the 100 and 500 free (54.28, 5:14.27). KU also won the 200 free relay (names are unavailable) and the 800 free relay, consisting of Kelly Rowan (jr. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby), Nikki Cattell (so. Warminster/William Tennent), Molly Brenner (fr. Reading/Reading) and Singer, in 8:09.92.

Last Week's Action

SAT 12/3 - at Bucknell Bsion Opener - Kutztown's indoor track and field team started its season at the Bucknell Bison Opener. Tony Hegedus (jr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) and Matt Carroll (sr. Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) came in one - two in the 400m (49.75, 50.13). The 4x400m relay team of Steve Hixson (so. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh), Billy Boorse (jr. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley), Carroll and Hedgues, came in first with a time of 3:23.57. Brian Dodds (so. Wyomissing/Wilson) and Steve Winters (sr. Harrisburg.Cedar Cliff) tied for first in the pole vault at 15-3 while Mike Provenzano (sr. Carlisle/Carlisle) came in fifth, 14-11. Mike Turner (fr. Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) jumped 22-7, good for fourth place in the long jump. For the women, Laura Kline (sr. Reading/Reading) came in fourth in the 400m (59.95). The 4x400m relay team of Doofan Tor-Agbidye (fr. Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg), Renee Marchand (jr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack), Talia McKinney (Millersville/Penn Manor) and Kline, placed sixth in 4:05.72. Brooke McMurray (fr. Tafton/ Wallenpaupack) placed third in the high jump (5-3). Lindsey Runkle (fr. Pottsville/Pottsville) tied for fifth in the pole vault (10-4) and Christine Procopio (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hill) and Alison Maurer (sr. Lewisberry/Northern York) were fifth (51-8) and sixth (51-4 ½) in the 20-lb. weight, respectively.

Last Week's Action

SUN 12/4 - at Penn State Open - Ryan Wasser (sr. Northampton/Northampton) led Kutztown's efforts at the Division I dominated Penn State Open. Wasser won three matches in the winner's bracket, defeating wrestlers from Duquesne, Bloomsburg and Duke, to advance to the semifinals. Wasser dropped a major decision to RJ Boudro of Michigan State, then lost 6-3 to Carlos Ponce of Lock Haven to finish fourth. Dominic Sabia (sr. Conshohocken/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) was 4-2 in the 141 pound bracket to round out KU's top performers on the day.
