Brooke Martin - Women's Basketball
(sr. Lock Haven/Central Mountain)
Brooke Martin, of the women's basketball team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Martin helped Kutztown to a pair of PSAC crossover wins prior to the holiday break. Martin scored 11 points in KU's win over Indiana (PA) and netted 10 in the victory over Lock Haven. Martin was the only player to score in double figures in both games as KU snapped an 11-game losing streak vs. PSAC West foes and won back-to-back games vs. the other division for the first time in three years. She also averaged 6.5 rebounds in the two games.

TUE 12/21 - Indiana (PA) 85, KU 81 - Indiana (PA) used a game-closing 19-5 run to eliminate a double digit deficit and defeat Kutztown, 85-81, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover played at Keystone Arena. Bobby Eberhart (sr. Lancaster/McCaskey) scored a game-high 24 points in the loss. Frank Moultrie (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) added 21. Eberhart was 10-of-15 from the floor in the game and 3-of-5 from three-point distance. Moultrie finished 7-of-15 overall and 6-of-10 from long range. Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington, DE/Howard) had 11 rebounds and six blocks, while Ben Arnold (jr. Philadelphia/Christian Academy) grabbed nine boards. Ty Brickus (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 13 points. The Indians were on fire in the second half, shooting 19-of-33 for 58 percent after a first half in which they hit just 16-of-48 (33 percent). Eberhart led the Golden Bears to a 41-36 halftime lead. He scored 18 of his 24 in the opening 20 minutes, hitting 8-of-11 shots. The senior scored 14 points during a 16-6 run midway through the half that put KU ahead 26-20. Kutztown opened the second with Moultrie scoring 13 points in the first 6:17 as KU built its lead to double digits. The Golden Bears went ice cold down the stretch and failed to hit a field goal four nearly eight minutes as IUP mounted its comeback. The Golden Bears hit 30-of-65 from the field (46 percent) and 11-of-25 from long distance (44 percent) in the contest. IUP hit 35-of-81 (43 percent) from the floor, but connected on just 5-of-18 threes (28 percent).
WED 12/22 - KU 77, LOCK HAVEN 71 - Four players scored in double figures as Kutztown defeated Lock Haven, 77-71, in a PSAC Crossover at Keystone Arena. Salaam led the Golden Bears with 17 points on 4-of-7 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the line. He also had seven boards and two blocks. Eberhart scored 11, while Brickus and Vince Pease (sr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) added 10 each. Eberhart led KU with nine boards. Kutztown trailed in the early going, until a Salaam three-point play gave the Golden Bears a 20-18 lead with 8:16 left in the half. KU never trailed after that, and built its halftime lead to 41-29. The Bald Eagles opened the second half with a 12-2 run that cut the lead to 43-42 with 13:46 to play. Though KU never surrendered the lead, the Bald Eagles trailed by just two points with less than a minute to play. With 28 seconds left, Brickus canned a three from the wing to give the Golden Bears a 74-69 advantage. For the game, KU shot just 39 percent, making 23-of-59 shots. The Golden Bears hit 9-of-24 threes (38 percent) and went 22-of-34 from the charity stripe (65 percent). Lock Haven, meanwhile, used a 59 percent mark in the second half to close the game at 48 percent from the floor (28-of-59).

TUE 12/21 - KU 56, IUP 46 - Kutztown used a strong defensive performance to shut down IUP and take a 56-46 win at Keystone Arena in a PSAC Crossover. Rachel Weidensaul (fr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) led all scorers with 15 points for KU. Brooke Martin (sr. Lock Haven/Central Mountain) added 11 points and six rebounds. Mercedes Van Wagner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) had seven boards to lead Kutztown, while Megan Bainbridge (so. Minersville/Nativity) handed out six assists. The Golden Bears trailed 26-25 at the half, but forced the Indians into just 7-of-37 shooting in the second half - including 0-of-13 from three-point range. Kutztown shut down the starting five for IUP. The Indians' leading scorer shot 6-of-12 before fouling out, but IUP's other four starters combined to hit just 4-of-38 shots (11 percent). For the game, Kutztown connected on 40 percent of its shots from the floor, while holding Indiana (PA) to just 26 percent. The Indians also hit on just 3-of-25 threes.
WED 12/22 - KU 47, LOCK HAVEN 46 - Molly Brown (fr. Kennett Square/Kennett) sank a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to give the Golden Bears a 47-46 win over Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover at Keystone Arena. Brown, who led all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds off the bench, was fouled after rebounding a missed free throw with 15 ticks left. The Lady Eagles had just taken a 46-45 advantage after the first foul shot. Brown calmly sank both ensuing free throws for the 47-46 advantage, but LHU got one last chance. Brown fouled on an entry pass with just over one second left, but LHU missed the first free throw, and after a pair of timeouts, missed the second as well. Monique Boykins (jr. Yeardon/Penn Wood) secured the rebound and the game for the Golden Bears. Brown hit 5-of-11 shots and 7-of-8 free throws. Martin, a Lock Haven native, scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards. Trish Dudeck (jr. Shamokin/Shamokin), Van Wagner and Boykins had six rebounds each.

TUE 12/28 - at Wilkes Open (no team scores) - After a three week layoff, the Golden Bears returned to action at the unscored Wilkes Open. The tournament featured numerous Division I schools. At 125, Brandon Clemmer (fr. Upper Perkiomen/Upper Perkiomen) finished fourth, posting a mark of 4-2. He did not surrender a point in any of his four victories. Ryan Wasser (jr. Northampton/Northampton) placed fifth at 174, winning the fifth place bout by fall at 3:20. He also finished his day with a 4-2 record. Bret Wade (jr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) tied for fifth at 184, finishing 3-2. One of his wins came by fall in just 0:38.
