Last Week's Action

WED 1/12 - KU 77, Cheyney 69 - Four players scored in double figures to lead the Kutztown University men's basketball team to a 77-69 win over Cheyney in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division opener for both teams. Bobby Eberhart (sr. Lancaster/McCaskey) led all players with 17 points. Frank Moultrie (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) scored 16, while Ty Brickus (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) added 14 and Dorian Sims (so. Reading/Central Catholic) scored 11. Bilal Salaam (sr. Wilmington/Howard) grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked six shots for KU. Kutztown trailed by as many as 10 in the first half, before a late run got the Bears within two, 36-34, at halftime. Brickus scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half to keep KU close. KU took its first lead since the opening minute on a layup by Vince Pease (sr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) with 11:45 to play in the second half. Cheyney, however, quickly retook the lead and there would be five ties and two lead changes before Kutztown took control. Knotted at 57-57 with 5:40 to play, a three-pointer by Sims gave the Golden Bears the lead for good. It was Kutztown's first win at Cheyney since 1999.

SAT 1/15 - Edinboro 79, KU 56 - An ice-cold first half doomed Kutztown in a 79-56 loss to Edinboro in a PSAC crossover contest. The Golden Bears hit just 6-of-29 (21 percent) first half shots, as they fell behind 39-14 at the half. Eberhart hit 6-of-10 field goals to lead KU with 13 points. Ben Arnold (jr. Philadelphia/Christian Academy) also reached double figures with 11. Salaam had 10 boards and four blocks. Kutztown trailed just by just three after a Brickus three pointer cut the Edinboro lead to 13-10 with 12:26 to play in the half. The Fighting Scots outscored the Golden Bears 26-4 over the rest of the period. KU rebounded to hit over 50 percent of its second-half field goals, but the Edinboro lead was too much to overcome.

SUN 1/16 - Slippery Rock 75, KU 62 - Eberhart became the 17th player in Kutztown University men's basketball history to reach 1,000 points, but the Golden Bears were upset, 75-62, at Slippery Rock Sunday afternoon in a PSAC crossover. Eberhart scored 17 points to lead the Golden Bears, reaching the milestone on a layup with 13:03 remaining to tie the score at 47. Eberhart finished the game with 1,006 career points, already moving up two places to 15th on KU's all-time scoring list. Salaam scored 12 points and Sims scored 11 to round out Kutztown's leaders. Eberhart's milestone layup was followed by a bucket from Sims that gave KU a 49-47 lead, its last of the game. SRU hit back-to-back jumpers to take the lead for good.
