Dave Ben, Men's Basketball
(so. Coatesville/Coatesville)
Dave Ben, of the men's basketball team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Ben averaged 20.7 in three games, including a career high, 31, against Lock Haven. His 31 points included three from downtown and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Ben notched 12 points in a win over University of the Sciences and 19 points in the win over Shippensburg.

THU 11/30 - Kutztown 55, University of the Sciences 53 - Three players scored in double figures to lead Kutztown to a 55-53 victory over the University of the Sciences. Nate Edwards (fr. Philadelphia/North Catholic) and Sean McKeon (jr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) scored 13 points apiece, while Dave Ben (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) added 12.
SAT 12/2 - KUTZTOWN 69, SHIPPENSBURG 64 - Kutztown defeated Shippensburg, 69-64, in a PSAC crossover contest. The Golden Bears had five players score in double figures. Ben led KU with 19 points. McKeon scored 13 points and pulled in 12 rebounds. Woodlin notched 11 points while Edwards and Stephen Dennis (fr. West Chester/Henderson) each added 10.
SUN 12/3 - KUTZTOWN 81, LOCK HAVEN 68 - Ben scored 31 points as Kutztown defeated Lock Haven, 81-68. Ben scored 27 of his 31 points in the second half. He connected on three three-pointers and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. McKeon notched 19 points, including two from downtown. McKeon led the team with nine rebounds and eight blocks. Woodlin added 10 points.

THU 11/30 - University of the Sciences 66, Kutztown 62 - Mercedes Van Wagner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and Jess Brady (sr. Wescosville/Emmaus) combined for 40 points, but it wasn't enough as the University of the Sciences defeated Kutztown, 66-62. Van Wagner was 10-of-16 from the field en route to a team-high 21 points. She added 14 rebounds. Brady hit 8-of-12 field goals and three free throws for her 19 points. She added 11 rebounds and four assists.
SAT 12/2 - SHIPPENSBURG 93, KUTZTOWN 72 - Shippensburg beat Kutztown, 93-72. Kutztown did not have a player score in double figures, despite scoring its second-highest point total this season. Kelley Healey (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Lara Dellegrotti (so. Berwick/Berwick) scored nine points each, while Katie Dovey (fr. Willow Hill/Fannett Metal) and Vivian Melvin (fr. Chichester/Chichester) added eight each. Rachel Wisemiller (fr. Hazleton/Hazleton) led KU with six rebounds.
SUN 12/3 - LOCK HAVEN 60, KUTZTOWN 52 - Lock Haven came on strong late to defeat Kutztown, 60-52. Van Wagner scored 17 points and pulled in 11 rebounds. Rachel Weidensaul (jr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) added 11 points.

SAT 12/2 - Bucknell Opener - The indoor track and field team opened its season at the Bucknell Opener. Tony Hegedus (sr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) placed second in the 400m in a time of 50.10. Shaun Crump (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) finished third in the 600 with a time of 1:29.33. Cody Hartzler (so. Belleville/Indian Valley) came in second in the high jump with a jump of 6-7. Brian Dodds (jr. Wyomissing/Wilson) finished second in the pole vault with a height of 15-3 and Steve Tyson (jr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) came in third in the shot put with a throw of 51-4 1/2. For the KU women, Lindasy Runkle (so. Port Carbon/Pottsville) tied for second in the pole vault with a height of 10-10.

SAT 12/2-SUN 12/3 - at Franklin & Marshall Invitational -2nd/9 - KU finished second at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Rowan was first with 833 points. Kutztown had 561 points for second. Franklin & Marshall finished third with 390.5 points. Swarthmore came in fourth (373), Widener fifth (356), Marymount sixth (259), McDaniel seventh (224), Elizabethtown eighth (155) and St. Mary's (MD) ninth (115). The 200 yard free relay team of Rich Reshetar (sr. Pipersville/Central Bucks East), Derek Orr (so. Easton/Easton), Stephen Krater (fr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) and Zane Zwillinger (fr. Wyalusing/Wyoming Seminary) came in second with a time of 1:29.97. The 400 free relay team of Orr, Krater, Zwillinger and Reshetar also placed second with a time of 3:16.27. The 800 free relay team of Orr, John Pandish (so. Milford/Delaware Valley), Krater and Reshetar finished second in a time of 7:15.76. The 200 medley relay team of Scott Thomas (so. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain), Sean Bonifas (jr. Lancaster/Hempfield), Scott Arnold (jr. York/Northeastern) and Reshetar placed third with a time of 1:40.38. The 400 medley relay team of Pandish, Bonifas, Arnold and Orr came in third as well in a time of 3:41.58. Greg Fournier (jr. Warrington/Central Bucks East) was the winner in the 500 free with a time of 1:46.19. He then placed second in the 1650 free (16:56.69). Alex Heller (fr. Willow Grove/Upper Moreland) was third (17:02.05) in the 1650 free. Bonifas placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.34. Bonifas also placed third in the 200 breast (2:18.09). Orr came in second in the 50 free (22.13) and Reshetar placed third (22.22). Reshetar also finished second in the 200 free (1:46.19) and third in the 100 free (49.08).

SAT 12/2-SUN12/3 - at Franklin & Marshall Invitational-3rd/11 - The Golden Bears placed third at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. Rowan came in first with 672.5 points. Franklin & Marshall was second with 451 points, Kutztown third with 437 and Washington & Lee fourth with 394. Swarthmore was fifth (392), Marymount sixth (295), St. Mary's (MD) seventh (269), Widener eighth (188.5), McDaniel ninth (101), Juniata 10th (89) and Elizabethtown 11th (88). Steph Jeppesen (fr. Bethlehem/Liberty) came in first in the 100 yard and 200 breast with times of 1:08.59 and 2:27.57, respectively. Ashley Singer (jr. Lititz/Warwick) finished first in the 100 free with a time of 54.09 and second in the 500 free (5:15.58). Singer also placed second in the 200 free (1:56.31) and Staci McGinty (jr. Jamison/Central Bucks East) was third (1:59.70). The 200 free relay team of Singer, Jill Pantelides (jr. Lansdowne/Arch Prendergast), Nikki Cattell (jr. Warminster/William Tennent) and McGinty came in second (1:41.83), along with the 800 relay team of McGinty, Pantelides, Cattell and Singer (8:06.08). The 400 free relay team of Singer, Pantelides, Cattell and Erin Searl (so. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) was third (3:42.52).

SUN 12/3 - at Penn State Open- Joe Kemmerer (jr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) placed third at 133 at the Penn State Open. Kemmerer was 5-1 on the afternoon with one pin. Chris Chambers (so. Holland/Council Rock South) went 4-2 at 149 on the afternoon and Roy Gecelosky (sr. Annville/Palmyra) was 3-2 at 184.
