Joe Kemmerer, Wrestling
(jr. Mountaintop/Crestwood)
Joe Kemmerer, of the wrestling team, is this week's KU Student Bookstore Athlete of the Week. Kemmerer was 4-0 at 133 lbs. at the East Coast Duals,. Kemmerer had a technical fall, 17-0, in 4:33, against UNC-Pembroke. He also had a major decision along with two decisions leading KU to a 3-1 weekend.

WED 1/17 - Mansfield 85, Kutztown 74 - Stephen Dennis (fr. West Chester/Henderson) and Dave Ben (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) each scored 25 points, but it wasn't enough as Mansfield pulled away at the end for an 85-74 win. Dennis added 11 rebounds, while Ben was 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Sean McKeon (jr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) had 12 points and four blocks.
SUN 1/20 - KUTZTOWN 73, BLOOMSBURG 70 (ot) -McKeon's three-point play with 35 seconds left in overtime proved to be the game winner as Kutztown defeated a feisty Bloomsburg squad, 73-70. Ben scored 30 points and grabbed nine boards, and it was his three pointer with 16 seconds left that sent the game to overtime for the Golden Bears. McKeon scored eight of his 16 points in overtime, as he gave KU the lead four times in the extra period. He was fouled as he sank the go-ahead basket with 35 ticks remaining and hit the free throw to make it 72-70. Dennis added 12 points and eight rebounds for Kutztown.

WED 1/17 - Mansfield 63, Kutztown 55 - Kutztown let a 10-point halftime lead slip away, as the Golden Bears lost to Mansfield, 63-55. Jess Brady (sr. Wescosville/Emmaus) scored 12 points for KU. Vivian Melvin (fr. Chichester/Chichester) and Mercedes Van Wagner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) each scored nine points. Van Wagner led KU with 11 rebounds.
SUN 1/20 - KUTZTOWN 53, BLOOMSBURG 47 -Kutztown defeated Bloomsburg, 53-47. Rachel Weidensaul (jr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) led the Golden Bears with 12 points on the afternoon. Van Wagner notched 11 points and eight rebounds. Brady added 10 points.

M: 2nd/12 - The men's track and field team competed at the Collegeville Classic and came in second with 77 points. Cheyney came in first with 138.5 points. Millersville placed third with 6-0 points and the College of New Jersey was fourth with 57 points. The 4x400 relay team of Steve Hixson (jr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh), Cody Hartzler (so. Belleville/Indian Valley), Jason Rowles (fr. Springfield/Marple-Newtown) and Tony Hegedus (sr. Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh) came in first with a time of 3:28.95. Hegedus came in second in the 200 with a time of 23.00. Hartzler was first in the high jump (6-4). Brian Dodds (jr. Wyomissing/Wilson) placed first in the pole vault with a height of 14-5 ¼, while Cullen Boyle (so. Hanover Twp./Bishop Hoban) was second with a height of 13-5 ¼. Steve Tyson (jr. Bridgeport/Upper Merion) finished first in the shot put with a throw of 51-11 ¾.
W: 2nd/13 - The women's track and field team finished second at the Collegeville Classic with 126.5 points. St. Joseph's came in first with 131.5 points. The College of New Jersey finished third with a score of 76 and Millersville was fourth with 61 points. Michelle Hughes (jr. Warminster/William Tennent) placed first in the shot put with a throw of 36-9 ¾. Kelly Strickland (fr. Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) finished first in the pole vault with a height of 11-3 ¾ and Lindsay Runkle (so. Port Carbon/Pottsville) was second with a height of 10-11 ¾. Renee Marchand (sr. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) was first in the high jump with a jump of 5-2 and Brooke McMurray (so. Hawley/Wallenpaupack) was third with a height of 5-0. Marchand placed second in the long jump with a jump of 17-0 and Laura Deller (jr. York/Dallastown) tied for third with a jump of 16-11. The 4x400 relay team of Kayla Quigley (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), Marchand, Katie Quinn (so. Glenolden/Interboro) and Joanna Horstmann (so. Downingtown/Downingtown West) finished first with a time of 4:13.46. Doofan Tor-Agbidye (so. Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) placed second in the 55 dash (7.44). Stephanie Williams (so. Harrisburg/Riverside) was first in the mile (5:20.23). Quigley came in third in the 55 hurdles (8.73).

SAT 1/20 - Kutztown 116, Bloomsburg 87 - The men's swim team defeated Bloomsburg, 116-87. The 400 yard medley relay team of Scott Thomas (so. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain), Sean Bonifas (jr. Lancaster/Hempfield), Scott Arnold (jr. York/Northeastern) and Rich Reshetar (sr. Pipersville/Central Bucks East) came in first with a time of 3:43.54. Reshetar won the 50 free (23.15). Derek Orr (so. Easton/Easton) placed first in the 100 free (50.08). Steve Krater (fr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) came in first in the 200 free (1:50.18). In the 500 free, Thomas came in first (5:00.33). Alex Heller (fr. Willow Grove/Upper Moreland) won the 1000 free (10:19.98) and Bonifas came in first in the 200 breast (2:23.15).

Jeppesen won the 200 yard IM (2:14.70) and the 200 breast (2:29.14). Ashley Singer (jr. Lititz/Warwick) placed first in the 500 free (5:17.37). The 400 medley relay team of Nikki Cattell (jr. FRI 1/19 - Kutztown 25, Carson-Newman (TN) 9 - Kutztown opened the East Coast Duals with a 25-9 win over Carson-Newman. Joe Kemmerer (jr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) defeated his man, 4-1, at 133. Brett Martinez (so. Slatington/Northern Lehigh) won a 7-6 decision at 141. At 149, Chris Chambers (so. Holland/Council Rock South) won a 6-0 decision. Kevin Kalbach (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown) won a major decision, 10-0, at 165. Curtis Beardsell (so. Warminster/William Tennent) won a 3-1 decision at 174. At 197, Kyle Davis (r-fr. Peckville/Valley View) pinned his man in 6:39 and Rich Dalmas (fr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) won an 8-3 decision at 285.
Kutztown 29, UNC-Pembroke 15 - Kutztown beat UNC-Pembroke, 29-15. Kemmerer won by a technical fall, 17-0, in 4:33 at 133. Martinez won a 12-11 decision at 141. At 157, David Zeek (fr. Newtown/Council Rock North) pinned his opponent at 157 in 1:20. Kalbach won at 165 by a 10-8 decision. Beardsell won a 10-4 decision at 174. At 184, Roy Gecelosky (sr. Annville/Palmyra) pinned his man in 1:49. Dalmas won at 285 by a 3-2 decision.
SAT 1/20 - Kutztown 25, Gannon 15 - Kutztown defeated Gannon, 25-15. Kemmerer won by a major decision, 16-5, at 133. Martinez won a 14-9 decision at 141. At 149, Chambers won a 10-5 decision. Eric Bauder (fr. Emmaus/Emmaus) pinned his man in 1:57 at 174. Gecelosky won by a 7-5 decision at 184 and Dalmas pinned his opponents at 285 in 1:49.
West Liberty St. (WV) 22, Kutztown 15 - West Liberty St. defeated Kutztown, 22-15. Kemmerer won a 1-0 decision at 133 over Matt Moser, who is ranked seventh in division II. Kemmerer is ranked eighth. Kalbach won at 164 an 8-4 decision. Dalmas won a 4-1 decision at 285.
